To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM JOHN HINZE, CHRISTY DANIEL -KATTnnHnINRIoI-I, and SAMUEL BENJAMIN KATTnRHEINnICI-I, citizens of the United States of America, residing at N ew Knoxville, in the county of Auglaize and State of Ohio, have invented certain and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to an improvement in brackets, and particularly to a bracket adapted for removable connection to the casing of a pump driven by wind mill or hand to convert the pump into a constant power pump.
The invention broadly consists in the provision of a bracket, adapted for removable connection to the pump casing, and constructed to support a power shaft designed for operation from an engine or the like, and arranged to be connected to the pump rod, whereby without change or the dismantling of any of the parts of the pump structure,
no matter how originally operated, the pump may be converted into a constant power pump.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of the improvement.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective of the bracket and power shaft.
The improved jack is designed for application to a pump casing, as 1, and to be removably connected therewith at will, in order that the pump, as for example of the wind millor hand driven type, may be readily converted into a constant power pump, to be operated, for example by an engme.
The improved bracket, which forms an essential feature of the present invention, comprises a base plate 2, of substantially uniform width for substantially half its lengt-h and provided at approximately its mid length point with an outstanding web 3, formed at its free end with elongated bearing 4. Beyond the web 3 the base plate proper is gradually reduced in width and upwardly curved, terminating in an elongated bearing 5 in line with the bearing 4.
The relatively inner end of the base plate, that is the end remote from the bearing 5 is thickened, as at 6 to increase the strength at this point, and is provided in the surface from which the web 3 extends with a transversely extending channel 7, of a form to substantially interfit with they casing lof the pump. @n opposite' sides of the channel the base plate is formed with openings 8 through which are adapted to pass the lugs 9 of U-shape connectors 10, which embrace the case 1 in opposition to the bearing of the base plate, as seen in Fig. l. Nuts 11 engage the free ends of the legs Qbeyond the base plate, to thus removably secure the bracket to the pump casing, in an obvious manner.
A power shaft 12 is rotatably mounted in the alined bearings 4 and 5, the inner end of said shaft being provided with a crank 13, such crank end being adjacent the bearing 4. A pitman 14; is formed with an opening to engage the crank 13, the crank rod proper being preferably a removable headed pin to provide for this connection of the pitman. The pitman is provided at the. opposite end with a lateral extension, in the form of a pin 15, which is adapted t0 pass through an appropriate opening in the pump rod 16, and to be secured against accidental disconnection by any appropriate means 17, of which the cotter pin illustrated is an example.
The end ofthe power shaft 12 remote from the crank 13 is formed for the reception of a band or belt wheel 18, removably secured on said shaft by a 'set screw 19, and to be operated by belt or drive connection from a constant power unit, as a gas engine, indicated at 20.
The base plate 2 is provided adjacent the web 3 with an eye 21, projecting from one edge of said plate, and adapted to receive a tie rod 22, preferably adjustable in order to provide a connection from the bracket to the power plant if any of the commercial light power stands are used. This braces such power stand from the bracket and in sures more even action.
It is apparent that the improved bracket. may be readily and conveniently connected to a pump casing, and this without in any way interfering with or changing the construction or arrangement of the ordinary pump parts. When in position the pump rod is operated directly by the power plant as will be obvious.
