MOUNTING FOR EYEGLASSES.
ToaZZ whom it may concern: 7 Be it known that LJAcoB SPAAR, a citi-. zen of the United States, residing at Ka tonah, in the county of vVestchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mountings for Eyeglasses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in eyeglass clip fasteners and the object in view is to produce a simple and eflicient device of this nature, affording means whereby the screw holding the lens may be held from loosening, and comprises various details of construction, com
binations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is a perspective view showing the application of my 'ii'ivention to a lens, and Fig. 2 is a sectional View through the same.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a clip having fingers A and A the latter of. which is threaded for the reception of a screw .13, and the former countersunk to receive the head of the screw similar to the usual fastening means commonly employed upon lenses. Projecting in opposite directions from the shank of said clip are the wings C and D, the former of which is pro vided with a threaded opening E for the reception of the screw F having an aperture G formed in the head thereof, whereby a pin or other pointed instrument may be inserted therein for the purpose of turning the screw. H designates a lens held between the fingers by means of said screw B and the screw F is adapted to bear frictionally against the marginal edge of the lens, as shown clearly in the sectional view of the drawings, and
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed November 18, 1908.

serves to hold the marginal edge of the aperture 0 in the lens frictionally agalnst the screw passing therethrough and serves "to hold the latter from loosening.
K fastened at one end to said wing D and its other end to the shank of the fastener adjacent to the forked portion B. This reinforcing brace is for the purpose of withstanding the strain which would come upon the wing D when the screw F is turned frictionally against the edge of the lens.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that, by the provision of a lens mounted as shown and described, a simple and eflicient means is aiforded'whereby a lens may be held securely and the screw upon which the lens is inounted'prevented from loosening.
What I claim to be new is 2-- 1. A clip fastener for eyeglasses having apertured fingers, a screw carried thereby and engaging an eyeglass, wings upon the shank portion of said fastener, and a set screw carried by one of said wings and adapted to bear against. the edge of the eyeglass, as set forth.
2. A .clip fastener for eyeglasses having apertured fingers, a screw carried thereby and engaging an eyeglass, wings upon the shank portion-of said fastener, a set screw carried by one of said wings and adapted to bear against the edge of the eyeglass, the outer of said wings being reinforced, as set forth.
3. A clip fastener for eyeglasses having apertured fingers, a screw carried thereby and engaging an eyeglass, wings upon the shank portion of said fastener, a set screw carried by one of said wings and adapted to bear against the edge of the eyeglass, and an inclined reinforcing brace fastened at one end to the shank of the fastener and at its other end to said wings, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JACOB SPAAR.
Witnesses HENRY KASEHOP, EDWARD P. BARRETT.
