Specification of Letters Patent.
Iatented Aug. 10,1909.
Application filed Kay 18, 1908. Serial No. 138,890.
' 15 provide a simple and inexpensive tray for supporting a plurality of cones in a vertical p0Slt1OIl.
A further object of our invention is to provide a tray constructed of two pieces of material, one piece of material being card board bent to provide the body of the tray, while the other piece of material is-a piece of wire bent to provide a handle for the tray.
The detail construction entering into our invention will be presently described and then specifically claimed. Referring to the drawings forming apart of this specification,-. Figure 1 -is a perspective.-
view of our tray, Fig. 2 is a plan of' apiece of material forming'the body of the tray, and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional'view of our tray.
To put our invention into practice, we
, provide a rectangular piece of card board,
paperoid or similar material with openings 1 and 2, the openings 1 belng arranged 1n two rows with the openings of one row staggored with relation to the openings of the other-row. The'openings 2 are similarly arranged, and are approximately twice the diameter of the openings 1. The piece of cardboard is bentupon the dotted lines 3 to provide. a rectangularstructure having a top 4 with the openings 2 formedtherein, a
bottom 5 with the openings 1 formed therein,
and side walls 6 and 7, said side wall 7 being formed with overlapping longitudinal edges.
of the piece of card board. These overlapping edges can be adhesively secured together or riveted as may be desired. The
openings 1 are .thus, arranged beneath the openings 2 whereby a cone 8 can be placed in said openings and supported by the edges thereof, as clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings.
In order that the rectangular structure can be easily carried,-we provide the same intermediate the ends thereof with a wire handle 9, the vertical portions 10 of said handle extending throu h slots 11 'rovided therefor in the top and ottom of t e structure adjacent to their edges, whereby the hook shaped ends 12 of sald'handle can engag? the lower ed esof the side walls 6 .and 7 as est shown in ig. 3 of the drawings. It is ap arent that we have devised a novel tray the? can be, advantageously used in parkapicnics and places where a large numer of people are to be served with cones conbodying a top, a bottom, and side walls, the top and bottom walls having alining' openings, said openings in the top wall beingof greater diameter than those in the bottom, one of the side walls of said box formed from the free meetin edges of the material which overlap each 0t er and are secured together, the said top and bottom'walls further provided with transverse slots adjacent the up- .per and lower corners of the box, the slots in the bottom wall being in transverse alinement with each otherand the slots in the. top wall being in transverse alinement with each other, and handle formed from a piece of wire bent/fi provideialoaiLlaavingits vertical arms extendmgthrough said slots in thetop and bottom walls of the box, and having the free ends of said arms bent to provide hooks engaging the lower corners of the box.
' n testimony whereof we aflix' our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
