Be it known that I, CLAUDE G. MINER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Richmond, in the county ol St. Croix and State oll f'isconsin, have invented new and uselul Iirniirovements in Cover- Releasing Means, ol which the following is a speciiication.
r`"'his invention relates to cover releasing means lor receptacles and is particularly desirable in connection with pails or buckets and has for an object to provide a device of this character which may be operated when the bail oll the bucket or pail is actuated to elfectively move the cover out of engagement with the said pail or bucket.
l `further object of this invention is to provide a device oi' this character that can be applied to cans or receptacles of the well known forni without materially changing their construction or injuring the saine.
Other obj ects, and advantages will be apparent as the nature ol' the invention is better disclosed and it will be understood that changes within the scope oi' the claims may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this speciiication, and in which like numerals indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure l is a vertical section through a pail or receptacle showing the application ol the invention thereto, the cover of the pail being in its closed position. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device when operated to release the cover. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view through the stud and the cover releasing disk and bail ear. Fig. d is a detail perspective view of the device detached from the can.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings there is shown a cam a with an annular flange E at the upper end thereof. rihe said flange B surrounds the opening in the top of the can, and the said opening is closed by a cover C having an annular flange D to frictionally engage the said iiange B. rIhe can is provided at opposite points thereof adjacent to its upper end with studs 1, and as shown, the said studs are mounted to the can for pivotal movement.

U on reference to Fig. l of the drawings it wi l be seen that the normal position of the bail is vertical and that when in this position the disks or ears 6 are rotated to the extent that the disks or elements 5 are normally disengaged with the cover C. When it is desired to remove the cover, the bail 9 is pushed downwardly to the extent that the studs l are rotated so as to revolve the disks or elements 5 and by reason of the fact that they are eccentrically mounted to the studs they will engage the cover C and lift the same as shown in Fig. 2 of the drauf'iugs so that it may be lifted from thc can.
It will be seen that a simple and inexpensive device is provided which may be ei'lectively connected with cans, pails or receptacles ot any character wherein are provided covers adapted to frictionally engage portions of the said cans to hold them in their locked position.
Having thus lully described the invention, what is claimed as new, is :h
l. A receptacle having a hail, a cover for said receptacle, revoluble ears for the bail ends, and means carried by the said ears adapted to release the cover when the bail is moved to lie at one side of the said receptacle.
2. A receptacle having eccentrically mounted elements, concentrically mounted pivotal ears, a bail connected with said ears, and a cover for said receptacle adapted to be released and moved upwardly away from the top of said receptacle by said eccentrically mounted elements when the bail is at one side of the receptacle.
3.
