FRUIT-WRAPPING-PAPER HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2'7, 1909.
Application filed May 27, 1908. Serial No. 435,240.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE FAGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVhittier, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and use ful Fruit-lVrappingPaper Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in paper holders, in which an arm-weight operating on a hinge, exerts pressure on a needlepoint; and the object of my improvements is to provide a paper holder that will hold all the paper, within its capacity, with the same, unvarying pressure. I attain this object by the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1, is a front view of the invention as it appears when in operation; Fig. 2, a front view of the body of the holder; Fig. 3, a top view of the holder in operating position.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views of the drawing.
The weight A has a perforation Z) near the smaller end of the arm, through which it is secured by the screw-eye c, to a vertical support, or wall B of a fruit-wrapper receptacle. The back of the weight A is made fiat, and fits flush, and parallel with the wall B. The screw 0, on which the weight A hinges, is left slightly loose, or out enough to permit the weight A to swing free. The small end of the arm, from the point of hinging, to the tip, serves as a brace, to steady the weight.
The needle-point cl, is placed in a groove 1:, point projecting downward, and held viselike, by the head of a thumb-screw f, threaded into a perforation h in the lower projection of the weight A. A needle is secured to, or released from the holder, by the manipulation of the screw f. lVhen not in use, the needle (Z can be slid back in the groove 6, until the point is concealed by the head of the screw 7". The groove 6 is shallow enough to permit the body of the needle to'project slightly above the surface of the face of the weight A; the needle is thus brought in contact with the head of the screw f.
To receive a supply of paper, the weight A is lifted at the large end, and the paper C is placed 011 the base D of the paper receptacle, with one edge of the pack of paper, touching the wall B; the weight is then let down, and the needle-point d penetrates a few of the topmost sheets, near the edge of the pack, and permits the removal of but one sheet at a time, as the fru1t-packer requires it. The weight A descends as the paper is used.
A bolt and thumb-nut can be substituted for the screw 7, if the bolt-head is fitted flush with the back of the weight A.
The capacity of the paper holder is regulated by the length of the arm; in a longer arm, the capacity is greater.
The importance of my invention is largely in the manner of applying a lever to the paper; there are various ways in which spring pressure could be applied to a lever; levers of different design could also be used; I therefore claim broadly, a lever carrying a needlepoint, and used as herein described.
I am aware that needle-points have been used in connection with paper holders prior to my invention.
I claim:
A paper holder comprising a lever pivotally secured at one end to the back of a paper-receptacle, and weighted at its free end, and means for securing a needle adjustably to said weighted end, substantially as described.
EUGENE FAGAN.
Vitnesses:
V. M. HonoIN, CLARA B. HoDeIN.
It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 929,201, granted July 27, 1909, upon the application of Eugene Fagan, of Whittier, California, for an improvement in Fruit-Wrapping-Paper Holders, errors appear in the printed specification requiring correction as follows: In lines 18 and 19, the Words F ig. 2, a front View of the body of the holder should be stricken out; line 19, the numeral 3 should read 2; line 21, the period should be stricken out and a comma inserted instead, and the Words and Fig. 5, a detailed oiew s/lowing the manner of securing the needle to the holder" inserted; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with these corrections therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Office.
Signed and sealed this 28th day of September, A. D., 1909.
O. C. BILLINGS,
Acting Commissioner of Patents.
