Description

WALTER D. FORBES, OF OGDEN, UTAH.
APPAREL APPARATUS.
ASpeclcaton o Letters Patent.
Application filed July 17, 1908.
Patented :ruiy 2o, 1909.
serial no. 444,000.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WALTER D. Fonnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ogden, in the county of l/Veber and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparel Apparatus; and l do declaro the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in apparel apparatus.
It has for its object to provide more especially for enabling a dressnialrer, or other person, to accurately determine the length of a skirt from the waistband to the bottom edge, the distance the latter is from the ground or floor, with a view of insuring the proper hanging of the skirt, and to cause the bottom edge thereof all around to have'the same distance from the floor or ground 5 and to carry out these objects in avery simple and effective manner.
W ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a front elevation thereof as applied; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device itself upon an enlarged scale; Fig. 8 is a plan View thereof; Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view, taken on the line 44l of Fig. 3, Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the device in its folded or col lapsed. position.
In carrying out my invention I provide a suitable sup ort or stand, 1 preferably of annular out ine and having pivotally connected to its under side, as at 2, legs, 3, said logs being arranged in pairs and each pair connected by a cross brace, 4 and 5, crossing each other. At the point of crossing, one of said braces has a depression, 6, adapted to receive the opposite brace, and Within said depression is arranged a washer, 7, and through said braces and washer' is inserted a holding nut-equipped screw, S, for the retention of said braces with the legs in effective position. By this arrangement it will be seen that the legs may be readily folded or collapsed when notl in use, as shown in Fig. 5.
An inner table 9 preferably formed ot layers i' of veneer suitably united together is sup ported concentrically ofthe annular member or su port 1, said table may be of any suitable tdrm or shape and is provided with marginal notches 2a to permit the passage of ledges or projections upon the legs of the device When applying the same for use. The table 9 may be supported upon any one of a series of opposed ledges or projections 10 secured to the legs 3 at various distances from the top or support l to provide for the vertical adjustment of said table 9. rlhe legs 3 and braces 4 and 5 may be of the general outline disclosed, being preferably approximately T-shaped in cross section.
It 'will be noted that with the person standing in position upon the member 9, after it has been suitably adjusted upon the required ledges or projections, 10, with the skirt of said person over-hanging the member 1, and depending below the same, the member 1 indicates the point to which the bottom of the hem is desired to extend. The skirt is then provided with a suitable mark prefern ably made by a piece of chalk being drawn around the edge of the skirt against the edge of the member l which permits the turning up of an accurate hein to cause the skirt to hang evenly all around.
lt will be seen that this arrangement provides a very simple, inexpensive and. readily operated contrivance for carrying out the aforesaid purpose, and which is cheaply construct-ed.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with. the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the invention will lbe readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, aroportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacricing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A sliirt fitting stand having legs hingedly connected to its lower face and provided with laterally extending vertically spaced lugs, cross braces connecting diametrically opposite logs and crossing each other interM inediately of their ends, means for detach ably connecting said braces at their point of intersection, and a member adjustably mounted on said vertically spaced lugs.
2. A slrirt tting stand having legs hingedly connected to its lower fece and lprovided With I member euljustztblyv rnoiintecl on said verti;y
laterally extending vertically spa-ced lugs, callyspa-ced lugs.
