- A. A. LOW. SPARKING PLUG 'PoR HYDROGARBON MOTORS.
ArPLIoATIoN rILED Immo. 1909.

Sramana PLUG non ntrnnocannoN-Moroas. i
To all whom it 'may concern: l l
lle it known that LAnornueusrusLoW,
a. citizen ol' the United States, residing at Horseshoe, St. Lawrence countyand"St`ate o i' New York, haveinvented 'certain-new' and useful Improvements in Sparlaing Plugs'for Hydiocaihoii-Motois, of which the-following? yis a specification. f f
ol my invention is to ohviate the diffu ,ilties and delay heretofore attendmounted upon a guiding threadin said sleeve the plug l` with the guide sleeve whereby the plug is centralized with relation to the bushing, so that it may he quickly and conveniently inserted therein for the purpose and substantially in the manner hereinafter set forth,-tlie invention eonsistinglin the specific construction and `arrangement of parts described vand claimed.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure l,
is a central vertical sectional elevation shoW-' ing a spark plug ments, ther vlug place in the showing the lplug Withdrawn from the hushing; Fig.` 3, is an elevationof tlieouter end oi provided with my guide sleeve.
C, represents the inner side of the combustion chamber of a hydrocarbon. motor ol' any ordinary the .Water jacket surrounding the same. The Wallsrw, w, ol the water jacket W, are tapped to receive 7oushing B, having an external flange' l, the periphery With a male screw thread l1', for-engagement vviththe female screw s, on the innere/nd of the cylindrical guide sleeve-S. The cylindrical sleeve S, is also formed with the internal guide screw thread ..9, for engagement with a malev screw thread p, formed upon the periphery ol' the flange p, ol the spark plug l), which latter may loe of any ordinary or Well known construction, having the facets p, lor engagement with a key wrench. Between the threads sand s, is a space s2, in the sleeve S, which communicates with the at provided With my improveu enig shown as inserted in inosphcre through holes or perlorations S3.
The sparhing plug' l), is delivered l'or use S, attached to it, the plug' honig in the retracted position with relai Speccatibn of Letters Patent, i Application ledflreliuary, l, Eteral No. 479,160.

ly or after 'it has been reguide sleeve upon` Aaushing; Fig. 2, is a similar view or desired construetiom-VV being oi which is formed PATENT "OFFICE- f nonsnsiion, NEW YORK. i
Patented '.iruiy 6, iaoa.
vIn ,applying gtliew plug for use theV s evejis' j screwed Sor `otherwise secured to thel liang 5,.' of fthe hashing "B, which loi-ings' the screw thread p?, `on :the plug into perfect alineirient, l the female screw thread t, in thefbushf, y ing }B,-'th'e female guide screjvv thread s', inwV the cylindrical 'sleeve S, acting to guide and; "centralize the plug with accuracy so'tliatit may hequiclrly and conveniently-inserted or Withdrawn fromaposition in the bushing by the use of an ordinary keyv'vrench. The two-f l positions are illustrated in Figs. 1 .and 2,'of the drawings, in which Fig. 2f, represents the position of thefplug either before its initial in'- sertion or alter it has heen Withdrawn for the purpose of cleaning,1in which latter case the" holes s3, perform the function of hlovv `out holes. l
The discharge `from the cylinder C, oiV the ,i air and gases under pressure through the,
s ace s?, and lioless, in the guide-sleeveS,
c sans the, plug 'and removes all moisture, 3 soot or sediment that may have collected thereon, the holes s3, not only admittingof this` action, hut also affording means for ad-,l
mission of a cleansing inrusli'of pure, clean air after the internal pressure is exhaust-ed.
By my improved construction and arrangement of parts the delay and difficulty heretofore involved in alining the plug and effecting a proper engagement of the `male and female screw threads is ohviated; While thev plug may be eilectually cleaned Without removing it from position, in one sense'of the word, since it is onlv necessary to withdraw it from the bushing, While still retaining it in its position in the guide sleeve S, and .in alineinent 'with said hushin g in order to elleet this result. What l claim as my invention and desire to secure hy Letters Patent is, i l. In. adeviceof the character designated, the combination of an externally threaded bushing engaging With and extending through the Wall of a combustion chamberand formed with an internal screwV thread fior engagement with a male thread on the spark plug, a guido sleeve attached to said bushing and formedA4 with an internal guide screw thread, and a spark plug formed with the. male screw thread for engagement with the female sc'reiv thread in the said bushing and with a concentric flange thread peripherallylor engage nient with the screw thread in the guide sleeve, whereby the threadedv lower portion ioo fu, l
