Description

F. S. DOMBROWSKI.
-SIGNAL DEVICE. y APPLICATION-FILED JUNELG, 1908.
Patented July 6, 1909.
FRANK'S. DOMRCWSKI, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SIGNAL DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK S. DoMBRowT sx1, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Signal Devices, of
, which the following 1s a specication.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in automatic alarms arranged to sound a signal when water in a tank reaches a predetermined point, the invention being particularly designed for use in connection with drip pans for refrigerators or ice boxes, although manifestly applicable for other uses.
The invention has for its object the simdurable and efficient construction of apparatus of this character which is designed to close an electric circuit and ring a bell when the water in the pan .reaches a certain height, and a further object of the invention is an, improved construction of device of this character which may be held in an inoperative position 'out of the way when it is desired to empty and replace the pan. With these and other objects in view, as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings in which):
Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the operating parts of my improved alarm mechanism, and Fig. 2 an elevation thereof with parts in section.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
My automatic over-flow alarm comprises a float or` buoyant element l of cork or the like which is adapted to be inserted in the drip-pan or other vessel is secured to and suspended by av stem'constructed in telescopic sections '2 and 3 the telescopic section 2 being secured to the buoyant element l by means of nuts or the like as shown and the upper sectionv being held at different extensions relative to the lsection 2 in which it telescopes by means' of Specification of Letters Patent. Application led June 16, 1908.

Serial No. 438,881.
a set, screw 4. The stem extends upwardly through an opening formed in alv pintle 5 mounted to rock about its longitudinal'axis in hanger brackets 6 which may be secured by screws orthe likeV to the bottom of the refrigerator or any other convenient support. The stem is prevented from dropping from the shaft 5 by means of a collar or protuberance 7 secured to the upper end of the stem. The upper extremity of the stem is provided with an insulating tip 8 in vertical alinement with the movable switch 9,
10 designating the relatively stationary element of the switch and 11 designating an electric bell in circuit with the elements 9 and IO, so that when the buoyant element 1. is raised upwardly by the volume of water in the drip-pan or the like, the tip 8 will engage with the switch element it into engagement with the element l() close the circuit and sound the alarm.
The stem which is constituted by the sections 2 and 3 is mounted for guiding movement in an eye 'l2 formed in the extremity of a crank I3 of a shaft 14. This and shaft or rod 14 is mounted to turn about its longitudinal axis in a bracket hanger 15, as shown and in 4some other suitable support is the front of the refrigerator, indicated at 16. shaft 14 is provided `with a tinger'knob or handle 17 by which the shaft may be'turned and a spring latch-or keeper 18 is secured in proximity to the handle, so as to engage the same and hold the shaft 14 after it has been turned to carry the buoyant element 1 and other parts before described out of the way, so that the pan may be emptied and replaced. Obviously the in alinement with each other.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A device lof the character described, comprising a buoyant element, a stem secured thereto, ia spindle, said stem being mounted upon the spindle for avertiealsliding movement therethrough, an alarm device, means for actuating said alarm device upon the upward movement ofthe stern pintle 5 and the shaft I4 are 9 and move l 2. A ldevice of the character described, spindle whereby to hold the buoyant element comprising a buoyant element, a, stem seandthe stem swung upwardly to one side. l0 cured thereto, a spindle, supports on which In testimony whereof I a X my Signature saidspindle is mounted to rock about its 'in presence of two witnesses.
5 longitudinal axis, a stemA passing through FRANK s, DOMBROWSKI, [L 5,]
the swndle, an alarm arranged to be actuated Witnesses: by t e movement of the stem `upwardly 1n BERNARD G. MATZ,
the spindle, and means for turning said JOHN HENRY.
