ALARM DEVICE.
mman-ans To all Lo/tom t may concern Be it known that l, THOMAS N. EATMAN, a citizen of the 1United States, residin at Hairston, in the county of Greene and mate ot' Alabama, have inventednew and useful Improvements in Alarm Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to alarm devices by means of which audible signals will be givenY upon the level of the liquid lowering a predetermined degree.
The primary object of the invention is to provide device of this character wherein the parte are readily separated for obvious reasons.
Another object of the invention is the novel manner of mounting the switch mechanism within the cylinder so that the saine can be readily inserted in the latter while at the same time being protected from the liquid.
The invention consists in the features of struction, combination, and arrangement parts, hereinafter fully described and med, reference being had to the accomllaying drawings, in which:
il'igure l is a vertical section through the device. and 3 are cross sections on the line 2-l and 3---3 of Fig'. l..
Referring' to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a cylinder', the lower and of which being' adapted to communicate with a body of liquid, while the upper end has threaded thereon a cap 2 having a centrally arranged aperture 3 in which is threaded a aching gland 4i for a purpose hereinafter escribed.
Frictionally held within the cylinder at a spas-ed point from the cap Q is disk 5 :ilse
provided with a central aperture 6 passing through the cylinder and entering the periphery of the disk 5 are screws 7 for rigidly holdings the disk in place and to allow the same to he readily removed at will. From this construction it will be seen that a cham ber 8 is formed. Arranged in this chamber S a switch mechanism 9 comprising a switch arm l0 pivotally connected as shown at l1 to a bracket l2 of insulating material. Also secured to the bracket 12 is a contact linger 13 having a curved extremity 14 arranged to engage the switch arm 10 when Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 9, 1916.
the latter is lowered against the action of a coil spring l5 arranged between the arm and the upper surface of the disk 5. For moving the switch arm l0 downwardly as the level of the liquid lowers, I provide a float 16 having connection with the arm by means of the sleeves 17 threadedly mounted upon a rod 18 that in turn has a pin and slot connection 19 with the arm. The switch arm 10 and the contact linger 13 are arranged in an alarm circuit 20.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that when the level of the liquid lowers a predetermined degree, the arm 10 will be thrown into electrical engagement with the Contact linger 1B for closing the alarm circuit.
Attention -is called to the fact that by removing the screws 7 andthe screws 21 that support the bracket of insulating material, the ioat, rod, and switch mechanism can be removed as a unit. I
For giving visual indication as to the level of the liquid l' provide a sight glass 22 communicating at its upper and' lower end respectively with the upper and lower portion of the cylinder and the same has thereon graduation marks 23. Movable within the sight glass 22 is a float 24 which moves in accordance with the raising and lowering of the column of liquid.
l-iaving described my invention, what is claimed is 1.
circuit closer comprising a cylinder, a cap threaded upon one end of said cylinder, a disk dctachably mounted in said cylinder at a point spaced from said cap, a bracket of insrlating` material secured to saidfoylinder hetwecn said cap and disk, a contact finger secured `to said bracket, a switch arm pivotally connected at one end to said. bracket, a coil spring arranged between the remaining end of said arm and said disk, a float having a pivotal connection with the intermediate THOMAS N. EATMAN.
