Description

Letters Patent No. 92,711, dated July 20, 1869.
RANGE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, G. K. EDWARDS, of the city and county of New York, in the State of NewYork, have invented a new and improved Cooking and Heatingltange; and I do hel'ebydcclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in ranges, having-for its object to provide certain improvements in the arrangement of the fire-pot calculated to concentrate the heat either under the kettle-holes, or under the ovens, when required, or to equalize it between the two.
Also, to provide, in connection with the improved cooking1'ange, heating-chambers, or radiators for heating air and giving it off to conducting-pipes, to be conveyed to rooms for heating.
Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation taken on the line a: :v of fig. 2;
Figure 2 represents a vertical section taken on the line y y of fig. 1; and
Figure 3 represents a plan view pa-rtly broken. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i
The essential, feature of my invention consists in the movable arrangement of the fire-pot A, and the dampers B 0, connected therewith. I propose to arrange the said fire-pot A, in a sliding way D, either on wheels or not, so that it can be drawn out under the kettle-holes E, or shoved back under the elevated ovens F and radiators G H, or adjusted about equally between the two when required, as shown in fig. 2, whereby the fire may beconcentrated upon either place, as it is often required to be, and which is now done to some extent by the aid of dampers for changing the direction of the product of combustion.
B and 0. represent dampers for closing the space each side of the fire-box. These dampers are to be changed whenever the fire-pot is changed.
When it stands in the centre, as in fig. 2, these dampers are to be separated, as shown; but when it is at the front, the damper O is shoved back to B, and when the fire-pot is in the rearmost part, 0 occupies the present position, and B is moved up to it.
- Below and above the ovens are radiators G H, and
air-heating chambers I K, by which the heat is utilized for heating air, which may be admitted to the heatingchambers in any suitable way, and conveyed away through the pipes L.
M represents the smoke-pipe.
The front, N, is supported on hinges for convenience of access to the interior spaces.
The whole device is to be set into the brick work 0, in the usual way.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-- 1. The arrangement of the fire-potA, for adjustment relatively to the front and rear of the range, and the adjustable dampers B C, all substantially as specified.
2. The arrangement, with the cooking-range herein described, of the radiators G H and heating-chambers I K, all substantially as specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 26th day of May, 1869.
O. K. EDXVARDS.
