Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 29,1909.
Applioationfilcd March 19, 1908. Serial No. 422,159.
Be itltnown that we. HENRY G. Karin. a
. citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough of Brooklyn. count; of Kings. city and State of New .York. and AnoLru Knrrnnn, a citizen of the United States. and resident of Jamaica, Long Island, county of Queens. city and State of New York. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tools, of which the following a specification.
Our invention relates to tools and has for its object to combine a number of imple' ments in one compact simple and easily operated construction.
Our devicewill be fully described hereinafter and the features of novelty will be pointed out in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of our improved tool in its closed condition, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing said tool in its open or spread condition and Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof.
The tool comprises two members, A and B pivoted together at C and forming when the tool'is closed as in Fig. 1 a handle.
D is an an or hatchet blade formed integral with the member A and E is a hammer head forming part of'the member B. The hammer head is provided with a claw F for use in drawing nails.
G and G are nipping jaws formed respecti rely on the members A. and B and H. H. are cuttingmembers also forming part. respective; of the members A and B. The cutting IDBmlIJQl'S H and H are intended for use a wire cutting shears, or t'or any other purpose for'which they nay be suitable. Each. member A and Bis provided with a number of oppositely disposed toothed or serrated concave jaws I, which form pipe wrenches of varying sizes. The members A and I) are further provided with oppositclv disposed angular jaws or receivers J which together are intended for use as a nut *rcneh or as a key.
K is .a punch forming partot' or secured to the member}. and act" to in conjunction with an aperture K in the other member B. Each member and l may also be providedwith a number of tapered opeuii'ip's l. of
various sizes, which may be used for draw ing out wire. The member A has its free end formed with claws- M for use as a tack litter and the free end of the member B is flattened tor use as a screwalrivwr as incicatcd at X. The screw-driver I: 1s so turned as to be in a plane at rightangles to the pivot C and the jaws M are located in a plane parallel with said pivot so that when the tool is in its closed condition as shown in Fig. l. the said screw-driver will fit between the claws M of the tack litter and lock the free ends of. the two members and B together. This prevents .wabbling of the two members A and l; and provides a secure handle for the tool. It will be seen that in addition thereto. the two members A. B are locked against lateral movement. at a point. intermediate between their free ends and the pivot C. by the projection or punch K fitting into the aperture-K.
ith our construction we therefore combine a large number of useful implements in one compact constrln-tion so that the individual members of the tool cannot be mis laid and are always ready for use.
By disposing the screw-driver as described the same is in a position to bc easily used and also as before stated acts as a l-rc v or lock to lock the two member: A and B againstv lateral movement relatively to each other when the tool in its closed comlition.
\Ve claim '1. In a combination tool. two members connected pivotallv and, one provided at. its free end with a forked portion to ict'eive the free end of the other inembcr and brevcnt' late 'al movement thereof. one of said members being provided. between its free cud and the pivot. with a projection extending to ard the other member. which has a recess to receive said projection and thus further brace the. two members against lateral movement.
in a combination tool. two members connected pivotall and one provided at it free end with a forked portion to rcccivc the free end ot the other m'cnihcr and prevent lateral movement thcreot'. one of said members bein j pm idcd. bclwccn its tree end and the pivot. with a projection cxtcndin; toward the oihcr member. which has a rcccss to receive said piojcction and thus presence of two subs witnesses this 4th day of March 1908 fnrther brace the two members against hands in the lateral movement, the opposnlg faces of sand members being provided with Work-holding HLVRY G. KAHL.

recesses, between the said projection and the 5 pivot, and'also between the projection and the free ends of the members.
In testimony whereof We have set our Htnesses ROBERT MoILWnINn, IETER LEUDN ER.
