Description

F. G. PARK Sn.
DOOR AND LIKE I? ENER.
APPLIOATION FILED JUNE 3, 1908.
926,01 8. Patented June 22, 1909.
FREDERICK G. PARKER, SR, OF ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA.
DOOR AND LIKE FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 22, 1909.
' Application filed June 3, 1908. Serial No. 436,361.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK G. PARKER, Sr. citizen of the United States, residing at Alameda, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door and Like Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a means for securing doors, in addition to the usual locks and fastenings for such purpose.
It consists in the novel combination of parts, and in details of construction which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse sectional elevation of a door provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is a front view thereof: and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view.
It is the object of my invention to provide a means additional to the usual locks of doors, windows and like openings, by which a supplemental securing device may be conveniently connected and maintained in position for ready use.
As shown in the drawings, A is the escutcheon having a key-hole made in the lower part for the key 2, and an opening through the upper part for the knob shank.
The outside knob may be of the usual, or any convenient form. The inside knob 3 is made of suitable ornamental form as shown, and has a hole made through it lengthwise for the reception of a bolt 4, when the latter is not in use. The upper part of the knob 3 has a depression or soc :et to receive the head of the bolt, so that the latter forms an ornamental fixture while in place. The shank of the knob 3 has formed u on it a ring 5 having a hole made transverse y through it. This hole is in line with the door casing, and upon or let into the casing is a plate 6 having a screw-threaded hole made in it in direct line with the ring 5.
The bolt 4 is made of such diameter as to easily slip through the opening in the ring 5, and its end is screw-threaded so as to fit the threads in the socket-piece 6.
The length of the bolt is such that when screwed into" the socket-piece, the bolt-head will approximately abut against the ring, and
thus hold the knob rigidly so it cannot be turned. The latch which is actuated by the knob thus becomes a permanent look while the bolt 5 is in this position.
The bolt awill, when disengaged from the ring in its locking position, be placed in the vertical opening in the knob, and the supplemental locking device will thus be kept convenient for use whenever desired, and with no danger of loss from displacement.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a latch turning knob, of a horizontally perforated ring, a bolt slidable there-through, a socket-piece fixed to the door casing, and means for looking the end of the bolt in said socket.
2. The combination of a knob having a vertical opening made therethrough said knob having a portion provided with a transverse opening, a bolt adapted to extend through the transverse opening and to engage a socket piece upon the door casing, and means for supporting the bolt within the ver tical opening of the knob, when said bolt is disengaged from said socket piece.
3. In a door latch and like, the combination of a knob having a vertical opening therethrough, said knob having a ring portion formed with it and )rovided with a horizontal opening, a bolt fitting each of said openings, and a socket upon the door casing with which the end of the bolt engages when the bolt is seated in said horizontal opening.
4. The combination in a door lock or latch, of a knob having a vertical opening made there-through, a removable bolt adapted to be normally carried in said opening, an extension of the knob having a horizontal opening made there-through adapted to receive the bolt when removed from the knob, and a socket-piece with which the end of the bolt is engaged.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK G. PARKER, SR. l/Vitnesses:
ARTHUR GORE, J. R. LOGAN.
