Description

uited-- gisten stent 691mm.'
Letters Patent No. 92,601, dated July 13, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-STOPPERS.
The Schedule referred to these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
& c.;wandl hereby declare the following to be a full.,
clear, and exact description thereof, reference' being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
y Myinvention relates to abottle-stopper, more especially intended for mineral-waterbottles; and consists in a rigid, but movable iijame, having a peripherallygrooved head, carrying va ling of India rubber, which acts as a stopper to the bottle when the frame is held down by means hereafter described.
Figure 1 .is a perspective view of the bottle-stopper in position in the bottle.
Figure 2 is a perspective view, showing the stopper removed from the bottle. l
Figure 3 is a vertical section in its closed condition.
Figure 4 is ahoiizontal section at the line af-x.
A is a ring, of India rubber, having preferably a D-shaped trai'isverse section, the straight side being upon the outside for contact4 with the neck of the bottle. 'This rubber ring rests in a groove surrounding the head B of a frame,`\vhose side-bars G, after vextending outward 'from the head, extend downward below the bulge e, at the top of the neclUE of'the bottle.
At the lower ends of thel side-bars G, are perforations j, which receive a wire ring, F, made to slide upon the neck `of .the bottle below the bulge.
Surrounding the neck, immediately beneath the bulge e, is a metallic ring, having horizontal or slightly inclined wings Gr, and thumb-pieces H. These wings, by the partial revolution of the ring, are madeto engage in notches c, upon the inner sides of the bars C.- 'Thatportion of the `ring embracing the wings G and thumb-pieces H, withlthe connectionbetween the two wings, is shown as cast i'n one piece, which, after application to the neck of the bottle, is held thereon by a wire tie, I, which is passed around the necks of the thumb-pie ces. y
The operation is as follows:
lhe bottle being filled, and the stopper forced downward iu the usual manner, the wings Gare engaged with the notches c, which prevents the raising of thc stopper when removed from the depresser.
It will be seen that the side-bars C are slightly curved sideways at their lower ends, to allow the stopper to be thrown over-on that side for the free injection or exit of the liquid.
Iclaim herein as 'new, and of my invention- The combination and arrangement ot' the rubber A, orits equivalent, 'flame B C c, wire F, and holdingring Gr H, substantially as described.
In testimony 'of which invention,-I hereunto set my hand.
' W. H. GIBBS.
