Be it known that we, HARRY J. Rurrner and CHARLES V. Donn, citizens of the United States, residing at Elgin, county of Kane,-

nnd State of Illinois, hane'dnvented certain new and useful Improveni ents in Combinatiou Pocket-Knives an d Qigar-Clips, of which the following is a specification.

. The object of our invention is to provide a devicei of the. class mentioned which shall be of few parts, simple of construction and of low costto manufacture.

A further object of our invention is to provide a 4 device as mentioned having a one piece handle to which'the blade is pivotally connected and in which aportion of the has.-

dle shall serve asa spring to hold the blade firmly in bothfopened and closed position and also to hold the blade yieldingly, in

proper position when the device isused as a cigar clip.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

\Vith these objects in view, our invention consists generally in a device of the class mentioned comprising .a handle portion formed of a single piece of steel rod bent don'- ble forming a pair of substantially parallel or slightly convergent spring arms, a blade pivot-ally connected to one of said arms which is longitiulinally slotted to receive it when in closed position and having faces or shoulders to engage the other arm which serves as a spring to hold the blade ineither open or closed position.

Our invention further consists in -a knife characterized as above stated andprovided or equipped with a stationary blade arranged between the arms and secured to the'opposite one from that to which the blade is connected and adapted for cooperation therewith to form or constitute a cigar clip.

Our invention further consists in various details of construction and arrangements of 1 parts all as will be fully described hereinafter 1 and particularly pointed out in the clainis.

Arranged between the arms 2 and 3, and secured to the latter, is a stationary bladev 14 I which together with the blade-8 constitutes a cigar clip when the latter blade is in closed position. In the drawings I have illustrated two forms of stationary blades 14. That illustrated in Fig. 3, is provided with a single beveled face 18' to cooperate with the blade 8. In the modified form shown in Figs. 4

and 5, the upper edge of the blade 14 is provided with a wedge shaped kerf 19 which extends longitudinally of the upper edge there.- of and transversely of the recess 16.

' Having described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters against the end of the opposite arm when in closed position and the other against said arm when the blade 1s in open position, the

last said arm constituting a spring to hold the blade and the first said arm being slotted substantially throughout its length, substantially as described.

In a device of the class described, a; handle portion formed of a single metal strip bent double forming a pair of arms, one of said arms being slotted substantially throu hout its length, in combination with a knife lade pivotally mounted in the end of said slotted arm and adapted to close thereinto'and a stationary blade arranged between said arms and secured to the opposite one from that to which the knife blade is pivoted, substantially as described.

In a device of the class described, a handle portion formed of a single metal strip bent double forming a pair of arms, one of said arms being slotted substantially throughout its length, incombination with a knife blade pivotally mounted on the end of said slotted arm and adapted to close 'thereinto, and a stationary blade arranged between said arms and secured to the opposite arm from that to which the knife blade is pivoted, the edge of said stationary blade and the adjacent edge of the slotted arm being recessed. substantially as described.
