JOSEPH ZIEGLER, OF PHILADEIJRHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SCRAPER.
No. 926,259. Specification of Application filed October 20, 1908.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn ZIEGLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, .State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Scraper, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention consists of a scraper' designed for wall or other pur oses, embodying a blade with a plurality oi edges, either of which may be brought into service so as to avoid the loss of time by an operator being sharpen a dull ed e during wor said blade having a centra opening and a series of openings corresponding to the plurality of edges, said series being arranged radially from the central opening to permit such service, means being em loyed wheremay be firmly an steadily held in. osition without liability to turn or shift Letters Patent. Patented June 15, 1909.
Serial No. 458,631.
kinds of work. In the blade at the center is an opening B, and around the same are openings C, which are harmoniously spaced in radial direction from said center openlngB.
D designates a plate forming a head for holding the blade, and E designates a socket on the inner end of said plate for the reception of a suitable stick or handle for conven ient manipulation of the device. In the face of said plate is a threaded opening F to receive the screw enter the central opening B of the blade, said plate having projecting therefrom the stud F, which is adapted to enter one of the openings C, so that when the screw G is tightened, the blade is clamped to the plate E and owing to the occupation by the stud of one of said openings C, which opening is on the socket side of the plate D, the blade is firmlyheld in position flat and stationarily in ateral direction.
It consists further of a guard applicable to. the edge of the blade on the side toward the hand of the operator, thus preventing contact with said edge.
on the holding plate, and its rotation thereon is prevented.
H designates a guard for the edge of the blade on the side toward the holder of the device, so that the hand cannot contact with It-consists also of a holder adapted to permit the location of the blade thereon in either the longitudinaldirection of the handle of the device or an angle thereto, in order to manipulate the device according to different re uirements and conditions.
or the purpose of explaining the invensaid edge, the same consisting of a flange J, which is adapted to extend across said edge and cover the same, and a limb K which extends right-angularly from said flange and is adapted to rest upon either face of the blade, it having therein a longitudinally extending slot L, which is adapted to receive the screw tion, the accom anying drawing illustrates a satisfactory re notion of the same to practice, but the important instrumenta ities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific arrangement and organization shown and described.
Figures 1 and 2 represent perspective views of opposite sides of a scraper embodying my invention. Fig. 3 represents a lon- G and the stud F, whereby when said screw is tightened, the guard is firmly held in its adjusted and operative position and turning of the same is prevented.
It will be seen that the blade is shown in Figs. 1 and 2 as disposed in the longitudinal direction of the-handle of the device, so that it can be used-for scraping purposes in said direction, the blade in front rendering service as required. When the edge of said itudinal section of another form of a scraper embodying my invention. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of the blade holder em- Figs. 5 and 6 represent face views blade becomes dull, the screw G is loosened or removed, when the guard is released. Then the blade may be rotated to present a sharp edge to the front, after which the guard is re-located and the screw tightened,
of different blades em loyed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings :-A designates a blade which is many-sided, each side having an edge which is adapted to be presented to the object to be scraped. In Figs. 1, 2,3, 4 and 5, all of the edges are sharp, while in vFig; 6, two edges are sharp and two edges are blunt, so as to adapt the blade to various when the device is in condition again for use. In some cases it is desired to hold the blade at a right angle to the longitudinal direction of the handle, as shown in Fig. 3. In this case, I employ the head D, which is of right- -angular form, the face of each limb' D, thereof having an opening F therein, and a stud F thereon, it being evident that when the blade is laced on the limb that extends G, which is adapted also to two-faced hea at a ri ht angle to the longitudinal direction of the andle, it may be secured thereat, as in theprevious case, the guard being corres ndingly located,- and the position of parts s gwn in said Fig. 3, but it is evident that the blade may be placed on the limb that extends in the longitudinal direction of the handle and secured with the guard thereto, when the device may be operated the same as when the parts are assembled, as in Figs. 1 and 2. i
Having thus described my invention, what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: 1. In a scra r of the character stated, a d having projecting from each of its faces a projection and at a distance from said projection an opening adjacent the angle formed by the' junction of the faces.
In a scra r of the character stated, a two-faced hea having projecting from each of its faces a projection and at a distance from saidprojection an opening adjacent the angle formed by the junction of the faces, said; head bein provided with a plate terminatin inasoc et.
n a scraper of the character stated, a blade having a central opening and a plurality of openings arranged radially from said central opening combined with a holder having a plate adapted for the attachment of a handle'thereto and a projection to enter one means for engaging the central o ening and engageable in an opening in the older I whereby the blade is he (1 against movement in all d1rections. v I I 4. In a scraper of the character stated, a blade having a central opening and a plurality of openings arranged radially from said central opening,. combined with a holder having a projection to enter one of said ra-' dial openings, detachable means for engaging the central openin opening in the hol er whereb e (1 against movement in all irections, and a guard having a flange receiving the edge of the blade adjacent the hand of the operator. n a scraper of the character stated, a
the blade is o ning, combined a many sided blade aving a central opening and openin s disposed radially thereto, and rcmovab e means for engaging the central opening of the blade and one of the o enings of the head to secure the blade to eit er face.
