Application :tiled October 15, 1908. Serial No. 457,913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HARLow R. STEVEN- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mooers, in the county of Clinton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful mprovements in Brooms; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to` make and use the same. .v
/My invention relates to brooms and particularly to that type having removable or interchangeable brushes.
lt has for its object" to simplify the construction and reduce the'cost of a broom of this style while at the samev time producing an article which is strong and'durable and especially adapted fonhousehold use.
The invention consists in the features v of V construction and combinations ofparts hereinafter described and specified in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my inventionz- Figure l is a side view of the broom when its parts are assembled. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of the holder and'brush separately, and Fic'. 4 is 'an enlarged sec; tional view on the line v4- oflig.v l.
In carrying out my invention I construct a holder l which may be attached to the handle 2 by means of the socket piece or fer-rule 3. Said holder comprises a band'or loop 4 preferably made of metal and connected Vto the ferruleby rigid bent metal strips. Rounded projections 6 are formed on the band/4 preferably by pressing in the ietal of which it is formed with suitable ies.
The separable brush head 8 preferably formed of a strip of metalv surrounding and binding the upper ends of the straws or'bristles' of the brush. Saidv head 8 is adapted' to Vfitinto therband 4 of Specification of Letters Patent.
over the band of the holder.
7 is provided with a Patented .rune 15, isos.
the holder and isprovided with depressions or sockets '9 which are preferably formed by pressing in the metal in a similar manner as the projections made on said band. These projections are rounded so that they will readily snap into place in the sockets when the brush is Iplaced in the holder aswill be seen from Fig. 4.
As an additional means of securing the brush in'the holder, upwardly projecting lugs ll() are formed on the head 8 and are adapted tobe bent down' atv opposite sides' or desirable, a bead or projection 11 may be arranged at the lower. edge of the head 8 and contact with the lower edge of said band of the holder when the brush is linserted therein to preventsaid head from passing too far into or through said band'. v v
