To' whom it may cmt'cem:
"" Be it known that I, IRVING G. DiM'oNn, a
' citizen of the United States, anda resident of Toledo, in the county of 'Lucas and State of Ohiofliave invented a certain new and useful Needle-Shower; and I do hereby declare the follpwing.to be a full, clear, and exact de- 's'c'riptlon of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tocrnake and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying.drawings, 'andto the figures of referencemarked thereon, which form apart of this specification. f
v My invention relates-.t-o needle spray or; shower attachments for :bath-tubs or the like; and has for its object the provision of a simple, cheap and improvedapparatus of this class, which. is adapted to be easily-and quickly attached tp the usual hot and cold water bath-tub fixtures and to be used in conjunctlonl there'withi to n'ovide a needle spray or showerv when the supply cocks are opened. Y
The operation, construction and arrange. ment of the parts of the invention-are fully described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,--
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus embodying my invention in association with' a bath-tub. Fig. 2 'is'a side elevation thereof in central vertical section, and
.Fig. 3 is a front view of the bracket or supporting-plate for the shower attachment.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a bath-tub of anydesired character, which has the usual hot and cold water-pipes 2, 2
[passed through the end or side of the tub within the same. A-combination bath-tub fixture 3, having the valves 4, 4. for hot and cold water, is connected to the ends 01' the pipes 2, 2 in the usual or any suitable manner, and has a common tub discharge nip le 5 which is provided with a valve 5 to ena leit'to be closed when the shower is in operation.
Supported by the pipes 2, 2 is the horizontal p ate or bracket'fi, which is provided, in-
- termediate its ends with the holes 7, 7
1 the t'u through which said pipes pass, and. at its ends with the holes -8, 8 to which the lower ends of the needle s raypipes 9, 9 are bolted or otherwise suitab y secured. The plate 6 is preferably bowed longitudinally thereof to ada t its central portionto abut against send and its end portions to project Letters Patent. Patented June 8, 1909.
| inwardly lromthe tub end whereby to so port thespray- pipcs 9, 9, in horizontal y slpaced relation to the tub end, as shown.
outwardly as they ascend, and are contracted at the1r upper ends to connect with a fourway union 10 at opposite sides thereof, as
connects at its upper end with the. under closed by "a plug 12, as shown.
the spray-pipes 9, S1 and 11. through the s'upply pipe 13, which" has its upper end connected'tothe. rear of the union and itslgwer end tapped into the rear of the hollow hcadl l,
chain-her of thefixture' 3, thus causing the and 11 when the valves 4, +1, ,or either of them are open and the valve 5 closed The head 14 is tapped into or otherwisesuitably of the fixtureill.
needle spray or shower apparatus, which is. adapted to be easily and quickly attached to is supported. 1n astrong and simple manner witlnn the tub by the cooperating action of the bracket-plate 6 and the hot and cold waterpipes'2, without necessitatingthe injuringof the tub by the boring of holes for the reception of su porting bolts 01' the like, and that the attac mg of the shower to the fixture does not interfere in anyway with; the ordinary use o l the same to dis: charge waterinto the tub for the purpose of a plunge bath.
be restricted to the articular arrangement he spray-pipes 9,!) preferably bend slightly shown. A pendent needle spray pipe 11' side of the union 1() and has its lower end terminating above the tub-fixture Stand 'VV'ater is supplied to the union IQ'to 'l'eed water to enter the head 14 and pass through the supply-pipe 13 to thespray- pipes 9, 9
threaded. tothe. top of the mixing-chamber h Vhen vthe fixture is pm vided cu ts top with a soap-cup, as s usuhave provided a simple and eflicient form of the customary bath-tub fixture, and whichwhich is ,provided on the top of the mikii'ig I wish it understood that I do not desire to 9 and construction of t e parts'shown and dc scribed, as obvious modifications will occur to ersons skilled in the art.
laying thus described my invention, what I. claim as new and desire to secure hyLeta ters Patent, is
1. The combination with the hotand cold water pipes'in a bath-tub, and the combina-' tion fixture attached thereto, of a bracket,
; .,,fbiracket, whereby to support the shower, and
2Q havingits supplyipe in communication with g, the mixing charn er of the fixture.
In a bath-tub, the combination with the hot and cold-water ipes, and the com lbination fixture attac led thereto, of a bracket carried by said pipes within the tub,
- [an inverted U-shaped needle shower having its-arm terminals attached to the; opposite 1 .ends of said bracket, whereby-to. support the shower, and having itsxfsupply-pi e extend ing upwardly from.-the-m1x1ng-e1amber of ithehot and cold water pi es rojeeting int ereof, of a the fixtures andin valve controlled communication with thesp'ray armsot' the shower. 4. The combination, with a bath-tub and wardly through the we.
braeket plate apertured to receive said pi es and being longitudinally bowed to a ut against the tub wall at its eentralportion and have its ends projected inwardly from the tub wall, and a shower apparatus attached to and supported by said plate.
5. In a bath-tub, the combination with thehot and cold water fixture therein, of a water-head secured to the top of the fixture in communication with its mixing-chamber, said water-head having its top fashioned to form a soap or sponge cu and a'shower at tachment having its supp y-pipe tapped into said water-head.
6. In a bath-tub, the'fcombination with. the hot and cold water 'pi es penetrating the wall 01' the tub, and tie combination fixture attached thereto, of a bracketlate secured to the water-pipes interiorly'jo the tub and having its terminals projecting transversely of the ,pipes, a shower.attachment comprising a union member, needle spra pipes extending outwardly and down war l'y from the union andattaching at their lower ends to the bracket terminals whereby'the shower is supported, a pendent spray-pipe attached to the union 'member,a waterlead secured to the top of the fixture in communication with its mixing-chamber, and a. supplyipe having its opposite ends tapped into t e union member and 'waterhead, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
