V 1 Application'filed February 14-, 19 24.; Seria1No. ceases,
This invention relates generally to faucets for, laundry tubs, and 'more particularly to one whichis capable o f delivering hotor cold water to. either oneof ,thecompartm'ents at i e l undry: ub: Q
The invention 15 also partlcularly adapted for use in connect on with a sink or tub.pro
vided with-a removable top, ,which, when the sink or tub is not in use,.is arranged to provide a table. a
The object ofthe invention is to provide an exceedingly simple construction of faucet, and supporting means therefor; the faucet and support being so arranged that the nozzle or spout can be shifted as desired without contacting with the support, another object is to provide a supporting means which can be used when the faucet is used in connection with a sink or tub provided with one of the removable table covers before referred to.
With these various objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction andin the manner of arranging and combining the same, all of which will befully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim. A
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Fig. 1 is a face View of a faucet constructed in accordance with the invention, and showing the practical application thereof; Fig. 2 is'a vertical sectional view partly in elevation; Fig. 3 is a sectional plan View and Fig. 4 is a View showing a slightly modified form of support.
In carrying out the invention, there is pro-' vided a faucet body A to which are connected the hot and cold pipes B and C controlled by means of the valves D and arranged at each end of the faucet.
The body A is formed with a centrally arranged forwardly and downwardly extending discharge member F to which is swiveled the nozzle or spout G. This swivel action is accomplished by roviding the internally threaded gasket with a screwthread for the externally threaded end of the discharge portion F, the inner end of the discharge spout or nozzle being slightly enlarged; and if desired a packing ring or washer may be interposed between this enlarged end and the gasket.
By this construction a non-leakable connection 1s provided but at the same time the nozzle or spout G can be swung to either side viously mentioned; and if desire as, desired for the purpose of} discharging the water into. e or the other ofthe coni- I pai'tment's of the tub Q I r I g 'l he faucet body, formed with a dependingjlug H, the, end of which Iis slightly tapered ,to fit into a correspondingly tapered socket 1,. arranged centrally. fof the curved 1 or support-K the, enidsof said arched support being provided with feet K which straddle and rest upon the rear wall L of the laundry tub, and upon opposite sides of the subdividing partition L. Screws K are preferably inserted through the rear sides of the feet K for the purpose of 'se curely connecting thesupport to the laundry tub.
If desired, a set screw L can be employed for fastening the depending portion of the faucet in the socket l I By means of a faucet, constructed and supported as herein shown and described, one is able to arrange the same close against the wall and above the rear wall of the laundry tub and a maximum of movement 7 of the spout or nozzleG in either direction is permissible inasmuch as the central dis-. charge portion F projects forwardly, and the upper end of the spout or nozzle is swiveled to the forward and lower end of this discharge portion. As before stated, itis not only possible to swing the nozzlefrom one side or the other in order to discharge the water into the particular compartment f When it is desired to use the or tub. of this character the support K of the type shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is dispensed with and in place thereof there is provided a plate M having a centrally disposed forwardly projecting socket M into which N of said bolt being provided with a tapered bore into which fits the tapered end H. of the centrally disposed depending lug H prea set screws the shank M of the bolt N, the head screw I can be provided for securely fastening the lug of the faucet to the supporting bolt. The plate is fastened to the wall above likewise siinple and inexpensive." 1 It'will therefore be seen that there is provideda combination faucet of the characterthe sink or tub and the bolt N can be adjusted-to the exact position desired and then the lugof the faucet is inserted-therein and connected thereto. i
'i The. freedom of movement of the spout or nozzleis exactly the salnesin thisform ofsupport as in the form illustrated in Figs, '1 and 2 a nd'the extent'o f this movement is il lustraited in Fig. 3.
The body of the faucet end the supportv are exceedingly simpleand inexpensive'to manufacture; and the'zisselnblage orconnec- 'tion of the parts into i a unitary structure is specified, which willfully carryout an of the: objects, and successfully perform the 1 various functions heretoforedescribed.
Havin thus described our invention. what we claim i As a new article of manufacture a faucet V for tubs and sinks comprising a body portion having inlet openings and a centr a lly errunged discharge .spout projecting forwardly and downwardly from the central forward portion of said body, sald 'body portion hav ing a downwardly extending member arranged in line with the body portion and to the rear of the forwardly and downwardly extending spout, the lowerend of said" depending 'memberbeing tapered and Ya sup port into which saidtapering endfits to'
