BATHROOM-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent. P t t 1 2 Application filed July 28, 1919. Serial No. 313,858.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR P. CODY, a citizen of the United States, resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bathroom-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
My invention relates to bath-room fixtures, the object being to provide a combined construction of an ordinary bath tub and wash basin, said combination designed for use in bath-rooms where the space is limited. The subject matter claimed in this application is an improvement upon the constructions of the general nature shown, described and claimed in m pending applications for U. S. Letters atents upon bath room fixtures, Serial Numbers 260,744 and 308,994.
The objects of the invention are to so arrange the combination bath tub and wash basin structure that one pair of water pipes may be employed for both; that separate waste water conduits may be provided for the tub and wash basin; that the wash basin waste water conduit may serve as an overflow pipe for the tub; that suitable check valves may be provided in the basin waste water pipe; and to provide means whereby the wash basin may be swung into position adjacent to the water faucets or out of position and away from the tub when the latter is being used.
The annexed drawing and the following description set forth in detail certain means embodying my invention, the disclosed means, however, constituting but one of the various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be employed.
In said annexed drawing:
Figure 1 represents a plan view of my combination fixture, the wash basin being shown in full lines in position for use and in dot and dash lines in positions where it is swung out of the Way when it is not in use;
Fig. 2 represents a side elevation.of my invention, parts of the basin and tub. being shown in vertical section;
Fig. 3 represents, upon an enlarged scale,
a vertical section taken in the plane indicated by the line IIIIII, Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 represents a fragmentary vertical section of the communicating portions of the tub overflow pipe and a wash basin waste water pipe and a cooperating back vent valve, the section being taken in the plane at right angles to that in which the section shown in Fig. 3 is taken.
Referring to the annexed drawing, 1 rep resents an enameled bath tub of ordinary and well known construction served by the usual hot and cold water pipes 2. These pipes 2 are securely clamped into position by means of a clamping member 3 supported by a waste water pipe 8 hereafter more fully described. A wash basin 6 is also adapted to be served by the water pipes 2, said basin being provided with a waste water outlet 7 having a trap portion 7, said waste water conduit terminating 'within the conduit member 8 hereinbefore mentioned, as plainly shown in Fig. 8. The conduit member 8 is screw threaded into a fitting 9, Fig. 4, into which is also screw threaded the outer end of an overflow pipe 14 from the tub 1. Said fitting 9 is formed with a back vent or check valve 10 of usual and well known construction for preventing the passage of ob-.
noxious gases into the overflow pipe 14. There is also screwthreaded into the fitting 9 the top of the conduit 4 which is screwthreaded at its bottom into a second fitting 9 also provided with a check valve 10 preventing the passage of obnoxious gases into a waste Water pipe 5 from the tub 1. The waste water from the pipes 5 and 7 as well as the overflow from the pipe 14 passes into a common pipe 13 screwthreaded into the bottom of the lower fitting 9 whence all of said water passes into a drain (not shown).
It has been mentioned that the basin waste water conduit terminates within the conduit member 8. This is plainly shown in Fig. 3. The construction is such that the basin 6 swings in a pair of arcs of which the center lies in the axis of the conduit member 8. Specifically, the member 7 is formed with an annular shoulder 7 resting upon an enlarged exteriorly threaded top portion 8' of the conduit member 8, a bearing washer 11 being disposed between the shoulder '7 and the enlarged portion 8'. The assembly is held to position by means of a lock nut 12 cooperating with the threaded portion'of the member 8 and having an inwardlyextending shoulder 12 adapted to fit tightly down upon the shoulder 7 7 What I claim is: a V
1. A bath room fixture comprising a tub, water pipes adjacent the tub, a waste water conduit adjacent said tub, a basin having a Waste conduit entirely above the tub'and outside thereof emptying into said waste water conduit, an overflow pipe from the tub connected with the waste water conduit, a separate waste-waterconduit from said tub connected with the first-named conduit, and means for pivotally mounting said basin outside of the tub and at the top portion of the first named conduit.
2. A bath room fixture comprising, a tub, water pipes adjacent the tub a waste water conduit adjacent said tub, means for securely clamping the water pipes to said waste conduit, a basin mounted above the tub, an overflow pipe from the tub connected with said waste water conduit, a separate waste water conduit from said tub connected with said first-named conduit, and
ing within the said first-named conduit, and
means for pivotally'supporting said basin exteriorly of the tub within the upper end of the first-named waste conduit, consisting of an enlarged exteriorly threaded formed on the upper end of the uprig t conduit, a member formed with an annular shoulder resting on the upper face of said enlarged portion and its lower end fitted within the first-named conduit, and an interiorly threaded lock nut member fitted to the threaded end of said first-named conduit with its inwardly extending shoulder fitting over said annular shouldered member.
