:Lt- :T:
OMER CYPRIEN GOULET AND ARTHUR LAMARRE, OF FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
'LOOlVI-SIDE PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 8, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, OMER CYPRIEN GoULET and ARTHUR LAMARRE, citizens of the United States, residing at Fall River, county of Bristol, and Commonwealth kof Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom-Side Protectors, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention re-lates to the protection of cast iron frames and particularly to the protection of the castings which form'the side of a loom. In this portion of'a loom structure great difculty is experienced 'on account of the location in it of the box for the shaft and the necessity of tightening this box in the loom side. The box, which is usually located in an opening in the casting, is ordinarily held in place by wedges and to tighten it these wedges are hammered between the casting and the box itself. This hammering has a tendency to crack the iron of the side, and in fact soon does crack it, and in a short time suiiciently weakens the side so that it is necessary to replace the part with a new one. lIt is to prevent this breaking of the side and the loss and delay incident thereto that the present invention has been devised.
The invention is a clamping member adapted to support the frame against radial cracking and is provided with portions to support and secure the box and hold it tightly in place without the necessity of wedges. The structure of this clamp will be more fully set forth in the specifications which follow and are shown in the drawings which form a part thereof and in which,
Figure l. is an outside view of a frame with the protector in place. Fig. 2. is an inside view of the same.- Fig. 3. 1s an edge view of a modified form of protector., Fig. 4c. is a section on the'line 'oe-'00, Fig. 2, and, Fig. 5. is an inside view of the -protector shown in Fig. 3. l
A is a frame of any type and is merely indicated as a conventionalized form of the cast side frames usually employed on looms.
B is a box or journal for the shaft D is the loom side protector consisting of a plate E surrounded by an internal beveled rim F.
G is an inner rim rounded to correspond with the groove in the box B. which it supports.
I-I is a post which extends out from the plate E far enough to extend through the opening in the loom side. Its upper side has a surface k adapted to bear against the lug Z) on the box B to -press the box firmly against the upper part of t-he opening and bind it in place.
The post H terminates in a threaded stem I which is threaded to receive a nut K which bears against the washer L. As indicated in Fig. 1 by the bolt head I1 the stem I may be omitted and the post I-I bored so that the lfastening can be put through as a separate In Figs. 1 and 2 the protector is shown as integral but it is convenient in applying the protector under some circumstances to have it made in -separate parts as indicated in Figs. 8 and 5. In these gures the parts D1 D2 are provided with ears d which are held together by bolts all and nuts d2.
In applying the protector, if the loom is set up it is slipped on over the shaft, or if the two part protector is used, it is merely bolted around it. The protector is then brought up to the frame and forced over the flange a of the frame A. The washer L is then applied on the inside and the nut K screwed on. y
What we therefore claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. The combination with a plate formin a supporting frame havin a flange exten ing therefrom and an opening surrounded by said liange, of a securing plate having a rim extending from the edge thereof, said rim being adapted to envelop and engage the flange on the supporting frame, means carried by the securing plate for tightly holding a box in the opening, and means for clamping the securing plate in place on the supporting frame.
2. rIhe combination with a plate forming a supporting frame having a flange extending therefrom and an opening surrounded by said flange, of a diametrically divided two part securing plate having a riin eXtend- In testimony whereof, We have affixed om1 ing from the edge thereof and adapted to signatures in presence of tivo Witnesses. envelop and engage the flange on the sup- OMER CYPRIEN GOULET. porting frame, means carried by the secul- ARTHUR LAMARRE.
