Description
Unire vsautres intrisa ernten EMMlll GRANT REYNOLDS, l" NICHOLSON, PENNSYLVANIA.
BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.-
Patented June 8, l1909.
Application filed March 28, 1907. Serial No. 366,113.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMME'r GRANT REY! Notes. a citizen ot' the United Statesiresiding al Nicholson, in the county of Wyomingy State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented eertain'new aud useful Improvements in Boxes; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ol the invention,
lsuch as will enable others skilled in the art,
therefore to produce a box of such construevtion that it. cannot be opened except by destroying it thereby preventing any possibility of its future use.
A further object ofthe invention is to.
provide a locking means of such construetion that it may be reversed at one end or side of the box so that the box 4can be opened by the purchaser of the goods Without destroying the box. My device is also applicable to very heavy envelops. t
.ln the aeconapanyinn drawings, Figure 1 '35 .is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through a box constructed in accordance with .my invention, Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional View therethrough, and, Fig. 3 is a perspective View of one end of the coveijfor the box.4
6 Referring more specilically tothe drawings the box is shown as comprising. a body 10 including ends 11 and there is shown a strip or false end'lQ which is secured at its ends or in other words at opposite sides of its middle to one end of the box it being `understood that there are t-Wo such strips, one for each end, and formed in cach strip is a rectangular opening 1,3. 'l`he top of the box is indicated by the numeral let and pasted or otherwise secured upon thel upper face of the top is a strip 15 of paste board or other suitable material from which the box is also made. This 'stripineludes a dependingl tongue 16 which projet-ts through a slot formed at the ends of the top upon the inner face of which is Jr'ormed a button 1T of the same or greater thickness than the strips 12. The opening 13 in each strip 12 is located at the middle of the strip and the tongues 16 are similarly located so that they may be inserted between the strips and the ends of the box when the top is applied thereto. When so inserted these buttons 1'( will move into the'openings 13 in the strips and by reason of the ,tact that the strips 12 normally rest against the ends I ot' the box, the tongues 1G will be held against movement to` displace thc buttons 17 from the openings `in which they seat.
From the foregoing it will be readily understood that after being` once applied to the body of the box, the top cannot be removed except by destroyingthetougue 16 i as these tongues and the b'uttons thereon are hidden from view. l
It is to be understood that l do not desire to be limited to the exact details ot' construction for obvious modifications will occur to a person 'skilled in the art.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. box having an outer casing, a relatively thin and yieldable false end niece held in said casing at each end thereof, each of said false end pieces havingan aperture therethrough and having its top edge in the plane of the top edges of the box, a cover tor said box, tongues depending from said cover in spaced parallel relrtion-to the ends thereoi"5 and buttons on said tongues adapted to enter said apertures and hold the cover from withdrawal, said buttons having their surfaces tiush with the inside of the box when in positionv to maintain an 'unbroken inner surface in said box. l'
Q. A box having an outer casing, a relatively thin and yieldable false end piece held in lsaid casing at each end tht-reet'.y and normally rtsting against said. end, each et said false end pieces having an aperture ther-ef lnough and having' its 'top edge in the plane of the top edges o? the box, a cover for said box, tongues depending from said. cover in spaced parallel relaon lo the ends thereof, and buttons on said Jnongues adapted to enter sacl apertures and hold -he cover from Withdrawal, said buttons having lheir surfaces flush With the inside o ehe box when n position to maintain nn unbroken inner surface of said box.
In teslimony whereof, I allx my si gnature, in presence of two witnesses. EMMET GRANT REYNOLDS. Witnesses M. J. SEAMANS,
H. l/V. SnAMANs.
