Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 29, 1908.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARE W. WILSON, a citizen of the United. States, residing at Formoso, in the county of Jewell, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Line-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a line or rein holder, and more particularly to the class of holders to be applied to a harness saddle and adapted for detachably supporting the harness lines or reins when not in use.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a line or rein holder adapted to, be permanently attached to a harness saddle at a convenient point thereof for freely receiving and detachably supporting the lines at one side of the saddle, and said holder being so connected to the latter whereby it will not become loose for lateral displacement and readily accessible.
With this and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described in detail and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings disclosing the preferred embodiment of the invention, however, changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to such as will come properly within the scope of the claim hereunto appended without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings :Figure 1, is a perspective view of a harness saddle with the invention applied thereto. Fig. 2, is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3, is a side view. Fig. 4, is a transverse sectional view of the harness saddle and the holder connected thereto.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
In the drawings the numeral 5, designates the harness saddle of conventional form having a back band 6, connected to a bridge plate or tree 7, which form no part of the invention.
The line holder comprises a single piece of material preferably metal and. having one end thereof bent on itself at right angles to form a shoulder or off set 9, having a for wardly extending car 10, parallel with the main body 8, of the strip of material. The opposite end of the strip of material is bent on itself outwardly and upwardly in parallelism with the main body 8, to form a yieldable hook or bill 11, which latter is spaced from the main body for receiving therebetween the lines or reins when not in use.
The ear 10, is inserted between the back band 6, and the bridge plate or tree 7, so that the offset or shoulder 9, will bear against the free end of the bridge plate or tree and is secured in this position by a rivet 12, passing through an opening or openings 13, in the car 10, and engaging the adjacent portions of the tree and band. It is obvious that any suitable fastener may be employed to secure the line holder in position on the harness thereof, however, particular mention has been made of a rivet as a preferable fastener. When the holder is secured to the saddle the outer face of the main body 8, will lie in the same plane with the outer face of the bridge tree 7, so as to permit easy insertion of the reins in said holder.
What is claimed is:
The combination with a harness saddle having a back band and a bridge piece secured thereto, of a line holder comprising a single piece of material bent on itself out wardly and upwardly to form a yieldable hook, at one end thereof, the opposite end of said piece having an offset secured between the bridge piece and back band to position the portion of said piece between the hook and offset flush with the outer face of said bridge piece.
