DEPOSIT AND COLLECTION RECEPTACLE.
Beitiknownth'at I, HENRY P. TURNER, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illlnois, have invented certain new and usefulIanprovements in Deposit and Collection Receptacles of which the following is a spec fication.
ages and to at any other time desired.
Both parts are preferably made of sheet This invention is a deposit and collection receptacle of that class applied to a door or window j'amb, especially to the former, and adapted toreceive milk bottles or other pack-- prevent thesame being stolen, the arrangement being suclithat the box or receptacle may be closed from the outside after the bottle is inserted, but cannot then 5 be opened'until the door is opened. The
means of attachingthe receptacle are such T that the box can readily be detached when i the door; is open, but cannot be detached whenthe door is closed. Hence, in use, the box may be removed from the door during the day," and placed in position at night or The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front view of the device in open position; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectlon in closed position; Fig. 3 is a perspective view ofone part or member ofthe receptacle; Fig. 41s a similar view of the other part.
The receptacle consists of two members, one of which is relatively fixed and the other of which swings to open and close the same.
metal stamped or pressed ..to the desired form. The fixed part comprises a plate 6 which is adaptedto be attached to the door jamb. .At its ends this plate isb'ent to form upper and lower horizontal projections 7" and 8, forming respectively a top and bottom for the box. p
The movable or swingin member consists of a plate bent on a vertical line to form two sides 9 and 10 which stand at right an les to each other, and cut and bent to pro uce top and bottom pieces 11 and 12 the outer edges of which are segmental in oiitline. At j the outer edge of the side 9 is a flange 13 i which is bent in or recurved at its edge to 5 form a Ii 14. v The swinging member above described is ivoted by rivets 15 and 16 to the top and i iottom pieces 7 and. 8 of the fixed member, in sucEmanner that the top parts 11 and 12 Specification of Let ters Fatent. Application filed July 29, 1903. Serial Iffo. 445,920;

greatturn of the inner member, the top and bottom 7 and 8 are provided at their ends with flanges l7 and 18, and when the box is closed the side 1.0'of the inner member strikesagainst these flanges. The plate 6 has; on the inside thereof a spring catch 19 at its rear end to the inner as indicated at 21, and is provided at its outer end with a hook 2 2 adapted to engage the lip 14 when the box is closed. The bat-ii 6 is also provided with key-hole slots23, which are horizontally arranged, with the narrow ends of the. slots projecting inwardly or toward the door. These slots receive screws 24: insertedin the door jainb 25, the door being indicated at 26. The arrangement is such that when the door is closed the heads of the screws engage over the margins of the narrow portions of the slots, with the inner edge of the box against the door, and in this position the box cannot be detached, bntwhen the door is opened the box can slid inwardly on the screws to bring the heads of the screws 0 posite the large ends of the slots, and tie box can then be lifted of? the "rows. Hence the door acts when closed 2. the box on the door jamb, but it can be detached and removed at will when the door is open.
In the use of the device the inner part of the box will be swung to open the. exposed side thereof. A bottle or package can then be placed in the box, resting on the bottom 12. The inner part is then turned in until the box is closed, and the catch 22 will engage over the lip 14 and hold the box closed. The side of the box toward the door is open, and when the door is opened the milk bottle or other ackage may be removed from the inside. 1', the whole box can be removed from the door jamb as above described. The box is fixed for the next operation or .,use by releasing the spring catch from the inside and swingingopen the inner part as originally described. I The invention will be found particularly useful and convenient for the phi-pose indicated. The possibility of readily removin the whole box from the door is a decided advant ge. when the milk or packages are to be received at a front door, since the obsive.
jectionable appearance of a boX in position during the day is avoided. There is an advantageous absence of keys or locks which become rusty or inoperative and are expen- The present device may be stamped out of sheet metal at small cost.
I claim: e 1. A receptacle of the kind described, comprising an outer relatively fixed part, and an inner part pivoted within the same, to swing ropen or closed, and having sides at an angle to each other and forming an inclosure when applied to a'corner, and a catch to hold the inner part closed. 2. A receptacle of the kind described, com- .prising a plate attachable to a door jamb and having outwardly projecting parts at to and bottom, and a member having two si es and pivoted attop and bottom to said projecting parts to swing toopenor closed position,- and a 'sprin catch located within the box and engdgea 1e between the plate and said member to hold the latter in closed position. I
3. A receptacle of the kind described, comprising an outer supporting part attachable to a door amb and havnw ro ections at 7 b top and bottom, and "an inner containing to a door jamb, a containing member having m; sides at an angle to each other, pivoted to sa d outer part, one of said sides having a hook at the edge thereof, and a sprlng catch attached to said outer part within the same andengageable with said hook when the said member is closed.
In testimony whereof, I-aflix my signature in presence v oftwo witnesses.
