BECEPTAGLE-I-IOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 272, 11915.
Application filed March 19, 1914. Serial No. 825,839.
To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, EMORY PARSONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lakewood, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacle- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to receptacle holders and particularly to that class of such devices utilized for holding milk bottles.
More specifically the invention relates to a milk bottle holder comprising a box preferably of sheet metal having a strip extending upward across the bottom of the box at a short distance within the edge of the bottom and forming a stop for a door hinged to the front of the box within the edge thereof and provided with a suitable lock for engaging beyond the strip extending upward from the bottom. The box also includes a door holder for holding the door open when there are no bottles set upright in the box, and this holder is in the form of a member or plate hinged to the back wall of the box and greater in width than the depth of the box so that when it is substantially horizontal it will hold the door open and prevent the lock from passing into latched position, this door holder being held in substantially a horizontal position by suitable projections extending from the wall of the box.
The invention may be further briefly summarized as consisting in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth in the following description, drawings and claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the box with a portion of the door broken away; Fig. 2 is a section upon the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view upon the line 33 of Fig. 5; Fig. 4 is a section upon the same line showing the bottle in place; and Fig. 5 is a section upon the line 55 of Fig. 3.
In carrying out the invention any preferred form and construction of parts may be employed so long as they possess the necessary characteristics, but I have shown one arrangement ,in the drawings which is effective and in such embodiment the box comprises a back 1, ends 2 and 3, a bottom 4: and a top 5. Secured to the bottom at a distance from the front edge thereof is an upwardly extending strip 6 extending the full width of the box and having an outwardly extending inclined flange 7 for a purpose to be described. Hinged to the inner side of the top of the box and at a distance from the front edge is a door 8 adapted to swing in and out within the sides and top of the box so that a suitable lock 9 carried by the door may have a latch 10 engage behind the strip 6 to lock the door closed. The lock 9 may be provided with any suitable key, not shown, for manipulating the same.
In order to prevent the closing of the door I provide a holding member 11 which in this instance is in the form of a shelf or plate hinged to the back at 12 and adapted to rest horizontally upon cleats 13 secured to the inner sides of the end walls of the box. These cleats also form a stop for the door when it is in closed position. The arrangement of the parts is such that when the holding member 11 is swung backward into the position shown in Fig. 4, the door may be closed and latched.
In use, the empty bottles are placed either below. the holding member 11 or above it in horizontal position, or in fact in any position which will permit this member 11 to remain in substantially a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 8, when the door will be held open, by reason of the width of this member being sufiicient to prevent the closing of the door. When, however, the empty bottles are removed and the filled ones are placed therein and the member 11 is swung back against the back of the box the door may be freely swung into latched or locked position.
Having described my invention, 1 claim A milk bottle holder, a box, a door hinged at its upper edge to the inner side of the top of the box and at a distance from the front edge thereof, a keeper strip extending on the inside of the box at the bottom and at a distance from the front edge thereof, a lock carried by the door cooperating with said keeper strip, a holding plate hinged to the back of the box at a point less than the height of any if the bottles used and of a Width greater than In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature the ]distance from the door when close& to in presence of two Witnesses as follows: tie ac: 01" the box, so as to hold the oor open when in a horizontal position, and EMORY PARSONS suitable stops secured to the ends of the box for retaining the holding plate in horizontal position.
