' 'iatented June 1909.
Application filed July 24;, 1908. Serial No. 445,096.
and useful Improvements'in Cement-Works.
' ers" Tools, of which the following is a specification, such as Will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to tools for use in .jointing or creasing cement pavements,
and the object thereof is toprovide an im proved tool of this class provided with a plu-' ralityof jointing or creasing devices which may be adjusted so as to make joints or creases close together or. far apart as may be desired; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists 1n a tool of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed. i
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompa nying drawing forms a part, in which the separate partsof my improvement are desig nated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in'which;
'proved .toel complete, Fig. 2 a
Figure 1 is a sectional side view of my implan view thereof, and ;Fig. 3 a partial-section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
In the practice of my invention, I provide an oblong rectangular frame or head a composed, in the form of construction shown, of side members 0, end members a! and a transverse central member a, and the side members a are provided with spaced holes or apertures 0?. The frame'or head a is also provided with a handle socket b which ranges transversely of said frame or head and is supported,- in the construction shown, at an acute angle thereto, and which is connected therewith, in the form of construction shown, by diverging side arms and divergingfront and back arms I), and the frame or head a, the handle socket b and the arms 6 and b are preferably cast integrally. I also provide, in the form of construction shown, a plurality of transverse jointing, creasing or scoring devicesc, five of which are shown, and the body portions of said devices are preferably provided with raised lugs c and are connected with the frame or head a by screws cl passed through the holes or apertures a and into said raised lugs. v
' The body portions of he jointing,
creasing or scoring devices 0 may be of any desired transverse width or thickness, and
are flat on their under sides as shown at c in Fig. 3 and the ends thereof are rounded or curved upwardly as shownat c in Fig. 1, and the bottom portions thereof are provided with longitudinally ranging jointing, creasingor scoring blades c which are V- shaped 1n cross section and the ends of which are curved upwardly or. rounded asshown at c. A-handle d is also connected withthe handle socket b, and with my improved tool an operator may stand erect or substantially so, and by moving the tool over I the surface of a cement or similar pavement may form a plprality of f" joints, scores or creases thereln at one operation of the tool, the said tool being moved back and forth over the surface of the cement in the usual manner. By means of my improvement the jointing creasing or scoring devices 0 may also be adjusted longitudinally of the frame or head a, and the distance between the joints, creases or scores made in the ocment may thus be regulated as desired, and it will be apparent that any preferred number of said jointing, creasing or scoring devices may be employed.
My invention is not limited to the use of a plurality of the jointing, creasing or scoring devices 0, as a single device of this class may be employed and the bottom thereof provided with a plurality of the blades .0 the advantage of improvement, when a single jointing, creasing or scoring device-is employed, being in the fact that a number of jointing, creasing or scoring devices having a greater or less number of blades 0 thereon may be provided, and one of said devices substituted for another whenever desired.
Having fully described my invention, what i I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is t I In a tool of the class descrlbed,.a frame or head having a handle socket connected with the top thereof, said [provided with spa frame or head being also my invention I have signed-my name in PM ced holes or apertures enoe of the subscribing witnesses this 22nd which range transverse y thereof inseparate day of July 1908. lines, and jointing devices detachably con- JOHN T. HARROP. nected with the bottom of said frame by bolts Witnesses: 4 passed through said holes or apertures. I A. R. APBLEMAN, In testimony that I claim the foregoing as O. E. MULEEANY.
