'as shown in Fig.
yUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. y
B OX.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 25, 1909. Application led. September 18, 1908. Serial No. 453,619. y I i The end Wall 3 is provided with a flap 12 having a reduced portion l2 in which is formed 1s also adapted,` to aline with. the passages 9 and 11. The endywall 4 is provided with a rectangular iiap 14' which carries a tongue To all 'whom it may concern: folded position.l
Be it .known that I, CHARLES E. BOBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Vortli, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have .invented new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of paper receptacles, and more particularly to boxes adapted for use in the transportation of mailmatter, and'has for an object to provide a device of the character which may be manufactured at a relatively low figure, and which when in an operative position will provide means to hold the walls of the' receptacle locked to prevent tampering with the contents ofthe receptacle. f
A further object of the invention is` to provide a receptacle which may be stamped from a single piece of material, and which will include novel means for reinforcing the corners ofsaid receptacle.
Vith these and other ends in view which willl appear as the nature of the inventionv is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangeinentand combination of parts which will rial 1(3.
As shown in Fig. 2, the flap 14 is folded to lie in parallel spaced relation to the bot-v tom 2, the tongue. 15 of the flap being bent at right angles and is passed through the passage .11 formedfin the Hap 10, is afterward passed through the `passage 9 and is finally .passed through the assage formed in the Hap 12. It will thus e seen that the adhesive materialupon the tongue 15 may be inloistened, and said tongue may be bent at right angles whereby saidadhesive material may be permanently enga ed with the outer surface of the flap 10 as will be readily understood. v t
A device as herein set forth and described is extremely simple in construction, may be manufactured at a relatively low figure and by constructing the tongues 16 as Vherein shown, it walls of the receptacle `in a locked position dui-ing transportation of said receptacle. `The web portions 7 serve as means to prevent the contents of the box from making 'its escapel through the corners, and these web portions also 'serve to reinforce the receptacle at the corners thereof.
Upon reference to Fig. 1 after being passed Ithrough the passage 9 is passed throuoh Athe passage 9, and if desired, the said tongue may be larly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings have been illustrated a simple and preferred form of invention; it being, however, understood# that no limitationis necessarily made to the precise ,details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterationsy and-modifications within the scope 'of theinvention may be resorted to when desirable.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a viev of the present invention, transverse section view, Fig. 3 plan view of the blank.
Referring now more particularly to the there is shown a receptacle 1 which is formed from a single blank of material 3 of the drawing, an which comprises a bottom wall 2 provided with end walls 3 and 4, and side walls 5 and G respectively. The end and side walls are connected at the corners of the bottom 2 by web portions 7 lfor a purpose to be hereinafter. described. The sidewwall 5 carries a flap 8 in whichis formed passages 9 and 9?, and the side wall-.6 is provided with a-similar flap 10 in which is formed a passage 11 ada ted'to aline with the passage 9 formed lhe flap 8 when the receptacle is in its moistened at its outer.l end so that it can "adhere to the under side of the flapl 8. l
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new,` is
1. Areceptacle com D end walls and` side wa ls integral therewith, a web forming an integral connection at each corner of said receptacle between the end wall and itsco-acting side wall adapted to` fold on itself and reinforce the corner of the receptacle, the end and side walls carry' .ing flaps to form the to of thereceptacle, the flaps of the side wal s and one end wall having slots alining with each other and the other `end wall having a strap .struck from the Jcentral portion thereof and projected through the slots of the other flaps to hold the" receptacle closed.
