SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented May 25,1909.
.. Application filed June 23, 1908. 'Serial No. 439,955.
To. all who/a it may concern:
Be it known that I, JozEPn RmcHARD, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn. in the county of Kings and State of New Yoi k, have invented certain new and useful I unproven-rents in. Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification, such as will emu lvle those skilled in the art to which. it apperl aim to make and use the same.
This invcmtion relates to safety razors and partirmlarly to means for holding the blade of a razor of this class in position on the frame, and the object thereof is to provide iniprovcl devices for this purpose whereby the blade may be'inserted into position, in
the usual manner, and locked therein and easily removed when desired.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate arts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a side view of a safety razor pro vided with my improvement, part-of the construction being broken away, Fig. 2 a back view of the device as shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 3 a plan view thereof with the blade removed, and :f,-Fig. 4 a pergpective view of a detail of the construction orming part of my imp'ovcment.
In the accompanying drawing I have shown a safety razor frame of a well known form, comprising a back portion a, a front portion a and a handle attaching portion a", and said frame is stain ed from sheet metal, ortion a hem at an acute angle to the bac portion a, and the handle attaching portion a being bent forwardly as clearly shown in Fig. 1 and being provided with the usual handle I).
The front portion a of the frame comprises, in the form of construction shown,
parallel end portions a, a front bar a and a central transverse member a", and the front bar is provided at the front edge thereof 'rality of teeth a which are bac curvedas shown in Fig. 1. '50 frame are split longitudinallyX ""to form s ring arms t [*tonds bac wardly and v back a of the frame as shown at with transverse recesses ayformin a pluwardly The transverse end portions a of the front part a? of the as shown at c d and downwar lyinto the g c in Fig. 2 so as to give a greater spring action to the spring armed, and the sa dspring armsdare J and forwardly between t e s lit at c exprovided at their forward ends witli"spring clips (1 having clamp heads (1 the end portions a; of the front part of the flame ad1acent to or at the ends of the front bar a of said part of the frame.
which overlap The front part a of the frame is provided centrally of the back portion thereof with a longitudinal. opening e, andsecured centrally of the inner side of theback a, of the frame and adjacent to the handle attaching part a thereof'as shown at e isa spring 1 which passes through the opening e, and the end of which is curved forwardly as shown' at f and formed in the central portion of the back a of the frame is a slot 9, and I also provide a lock lever it, one end if of which is'passed outwardl throu h the opening 9 and the other en h of w rich is bent at an angle to the end h and bears on the back side of the spring j, and said lock lever h is provided at its opposite sides and adjacent to the end It thereof with lugs or projections h which bear in longitudinal grooves 'L in theback a of the frame, saidof said frame outwardly and forming ribs 1? on the outer surface of the back a of the frame as shown-in Figs. 1 and 2.
The normal position of the parts 1 and h,
when the device is notin use, is that shown in dotted lines in Fi' 1, and in reparing the device for use a bla e 7' 1s assed downwardly e, front part a of heads (i of the the frame and the clamp H d 1 b e a e ias can spring arms at, and when t inserted into position the lever h is forced downwardly into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, and the end It thereof bears on the sprin and'the outer end of said sprin is force forwardly and bears on the bac edge of the blade .j as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and this locks the blade 7' in position and the device is ready for use. I: f
The end teeth a of the front part a of the frame are rovided with raised sto s a? against whic the edge portions of the hide j at the ends thereof StI'lKQ when said blade is inserted into position as shown in Fig. 1, and these stops prevent the edge def the blade from Pro ectm beyond the esired oint, and said sto s 0 protect the face in't e'olperation of s aving, from the corners of t re blade.
. ,The frame, comprising the arts a, a and a may be madeof any pre erred material and in any desired manner, my invention end h of the lock pertaining particularly tothe lock spring f, the lock lever device It and the clamp heads (P, and the construction and operation thereof.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new. and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v 1. A safety razor frame comprising a front, a back and a handle attaching part, the front part being provided at its opposite ends with spring clamp devices between Which and said part the blade is inserted, and the back of the frame being provided centrally of its inner side with a spring which is secured thereto and which projects through the front of the frame at the back thereof and is adapted to bear on the back of the blade when the latter is in position, and a lock lever device movably mounted in the back of the frame and adapted to operate on said spring.
2. A safety razor frame comprising a back,
afront and ahandle attaching device, the front part being provided at its pposite ends with integral clamp devices between which and said art the blade is inserted, a spring secure to the back of the frarn." and which projects through an opening in the fr nt of the frame at the back thereof and is adapted to bear on the back of the blade when the latter is in position, and a lock lever device pivoted in an opening in the back of the frame and adapted to be operated so as to force said spring forwardly.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this- 22nd day of June 1908.
