' 0; LAUBER. PORTABLE GUN. APPLIOATION FILED JULY 33, 1908.
PatentedMay 25, 1909.
OTTO LAUBER, OF ESSEN-ON-THE-RUHR, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO FRIED. KRUPP AKIIENGESEIJLSCHAFT, OF ESSEN-ON-THE-RUHR, GERMANY.
PORTABLE GUN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 25, 1909.
Application filed July 23, 1908. Serial No. 445,053.
To all whom it may concern:
g, Be it known that I, O'r'ro LAUBER, a subj ect of the Emperor of Germany, and a resi dent of Essen-on-the-Ruhr, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Guns, of which the fol lowing is a specification. I
The present invention relates to portable guns, and the object of the invention is to improve this type of guns in such a manner that the gun has suflicient' stability on firing, even in case considerable lateral adjustment is im arted to the gun-barrel.
The object or the invention is attained by providing auxiliary spade-members or stays provided with spades, the spade-members or stays being ointed to the mount in such a manner that they can be swung out laterally to resist reaction of firing when the gunbarrel has been adjusted laterally to a considerable extent.
One embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, by way of example. T I
Figure 1 is a side view of those-parts of a gun to which the invention relates, some parts being broken away, and Fig. 2 is the corresponding to View.
The gun barre B is mounted to slide on the slide-track carrier A which, through the medium of the horizontal trunnions a is swingingly mounted in the cradle O. Through the medium of an elevating mechanism the cradle C is connected with the slide-track carrier A and, through the medium of a horizontal training mechanism, the cradle can be swung relatively to. the mount F about the axis oi' the vertical trunnion c journaled in the mount F. The elevating mechanism and the horizontal training' mechanism, which are not shown in the drawings, may be of any suitable construc tion. However, attention is drawn to the fact that the lateral training mechanism and the connection between the cradleand the mount permit of considerable lateral swing- The mount is provided with wheels Q and has a trail provided with a spade f Two stays 0, each of which is provided with a spade 0 are jointed to the side-walls of the mountnear the bearing for'the trunnion 0 By means of links P, which have one end jointed to the side-walls of the mount and have their other end jointed to slides 0 on the stays, the stays O can be swung about vertical bolts N which are mounted in bearings f on the walls of the mount. In the position of travel the stays O almost lie against the side-walls of the mountF as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. In the firing position the stays assume the position. shown in full lines in Fig. 2. Through the medium of bolts 0 the slides 0 can be rigidly secured to the stays in the positions which correspond to the extreme inner and outer positions of the stays O.- V
A view of Big. 2 will demonstrate that, when considerable lateral swingin -move ment is imparted to the gun barrelz one of the stays O will always absorb the shock on firing. In this manner a tilting of the gun is in any case prevented with absolute certainty.
Without departing from the principle of the invention the trail proper might be com posed of two parts jointed together in such a manner that the two parts could be spread apart or folded together in a manner similar to the stays O.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. In a portable gun, thecombination with the mount and the gun ivotally mounted thereon; of a spade mem lerjointed to the mount and capable of being swung laterally to the mount to a position opposite to the direction in which the gun may be pointed.
2. In a portable gun, the combination with the mount, of a pair of spade members jointed to the mount and capable of being spread apart in the rear of the mount to resist forces at angles to the mount.
3. In aportable gun, the combination with the mount and its trail provided with a gn gunt rearwardly and laterally.
spade, of an auxiliary spade member ointed The foregoing specification signed at Dusto the mount and capable and adapted to i seldorf, Germany, this 22nd day of June, support said mount rearwardly and laterally. 1.908.
4:. In a portable gun, the combination with OTTO LAUBER. the mount, of a pair of spade members jointed to the mount and adapted to support said In presence of- PETER LIEBER, WHLHELM FLAsoI-IE.
