Be it known that I, MAXIMILIAN F. BoN- aANo, a citizen ofthe United States, .residing Aiii Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented Improved Means for Securing Splice- Barato-Ties, of which the following'is a specification. f

In the .arrangement of the pair of splice- `bars shown in Fig. 1, theclips 4 engage directly with the same, being adjusted by the blocks 5 and retained in placel by the bolts 12 and the nuts1`4. In this instance, the projection 11 a of each clip engages a spike notch formed in the flange of the splice-bar, as clearly shown in the sectional view, Fig. 4. Y
In Fig. 2, the splice-bars are shown offset with respect to each other, one clip on each side ofeach s lice-bar engagin the flange of the same at t e spike notch, w ile lthe other clips, disposed on opposite sides of the joint, abut against the ends of the splice-bars and engage the flange of the rails. In this instance the usual-form offjadjusting block is employed, 1 l
In the structure shown in' Fig. 3, the splice bars are positioned as in the structure shown in Fig. 1', with the ldifference that the base application, and when adjusti flange of one Vend of each splice-bar has been removed to permit one clip on each side of the joint to engage the flangeof the rail. The web ofthe splice-bar adjacent the web of the rail has been retained, however, so that the bolts will be disposed in the same manner as in the structure shown in Fig. 1. By providing the clips withprojections to engage the spike notches or slotsofthe splice bar flanges, as Well as arranging the clips to abut against the-ends of said splice bar flanges, endwise movement of said splicebars With respect to th'e ties is prevented and creeping of the rail is thereby resisted.

The combination of a pair'of splicebars for connecting to ether thef meeting ends of rails, ties, wear-p ates carried by said ties, clips secured to saidwear-plates and overlying the flanges of the splice-bars, and adjustable wedges for positioning Vsaid clips, the latter having projections engaging the spike notches of said splice-bars sol as to anchor the same to the ties and prevent creeping of the rails.v
5. The combination of a pair of splicebars for connecting together the meeting ends of rails, wear-plates carried by the ties upon which said rails and splice-bars rest,
clips secured to said wear-plates and engagengagement of the complementary notches in these parts.; the clips being slotted at 2;?, to permit movement whenthc adjusting blocks are to be moved with relation thereto. In i addition, the wear plates are secured to the j tie, and may be adjustedin precisely the l `same manner as in my application before referred to; thereby giving an additional lateral adjustment for the rails and their splices. j
I claim: 1. The combination with atie 'of a wearplate having flanges, splice-bars foi` securing ing, the flanges-of the splice-bars, said splicebars having flanges offset with respect to each other and one of said clips engaging the end of one of said splice-bars, and adjustable wedges for positioning said clips, the engagement of the latter with the splice-bars serving to anchor the same to the ties and prevent creeping ofthe rails.
