T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOLLY M. VnnPLANoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lansing, county of Ingham, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Turn-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in turn tables.
My improved turn table is particularly adapted for use in warehouses, garages, factories, e.tc., although it may be adapted for use in any relation where a turn table of this type is desired.
The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved turn table which may be manufactured entirely of metal, and is economical, both in cost of material and labor in producing the parts and in assembling. Second, to provide an improved turntable which is very strong in proportion to the weight of the material used therein, and is very easily operated.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a structure embodying the features of my invention, a portion of the platform and its support being broken away to show the relation of the parts. Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical central section thereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged horizontal section taken on a line corresponding to the broken line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. l is an enlarged detail vertical section taken on a line corresponding to line 4E4 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawings, I provide a cen tral hub-like member, preferably consisting of a cylindrical body 1, with a top piece 2, and a bottom piece 3, the parts being secured together by bolts 4 arranged within the body as illustrated. A plurality of radially arranged supports 5 are provided. These are preferably formed of pieces of pipe, their inner ends being threaded into the central member. At their outer ends the members 5 are provided with horizontal portions 6, their inner ends being inclined, to secure a brace effect or action.
The platform 7 is arranged upon the cen tral member and upon the supports 5, it being secured to the supports by means of the bolts or rivets 8 and also to the central mem her by means of bolts or rivets 9. This platform is, in the structure illustrated, circular, and is formed of sheet metal. At the outer edge of the platform is the circular way 10. This is preferably formed of angle iron, and is rigidly secured to the platform by means of suitable rivets or the like, the same not being here illustrated. A plurality of rollers 11 are provided for this way, the rollers being sup* ported by the pedestals 12, which are secured to the concrete foundation 13. The central member is provided with a spherical bearing member 14, while a socket bearing member 15 is supported on the foundation 16. This bearing is provided with an oil conduit 17, which leads to the top of the platform. (See Fig. 2). By thus arranging the parts, I secure a turn table which may be made of very light material, and at the same time is very strong and durable. The lightness of the material is not only of advantage in the mat ter of economy of the material but also in shipping and in handling.
My improved turn table is adapted for use in various relations, particularly where a light, easy running turn table is desirable, such as in factories, garages, warehouses and the like.
I have illustrated and described the same in the form preferred by me on account of the structural simplicity and economy thereof. I am however aware that it is capable of considerable variation in structural details, but as these variations will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, I have not attempted to illustrate or describe the same herein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a turn table, the combination of a central hub like member radially arranged tubular supports threaded into said central member, said supports having horizontal portions at their outer ends, their inner ends being inclined downwardly; a circular sheet metal platform resting upon and secured to said central member, and the horizontal portions of said supports; a circular way formed of angle iron, secured at the outer edge of said platform; a plurality of supporting rollers on which said way is adapted to travel; a cylindrical bearing member on said hub; and a socket bearing member therefor.
2. In a turn table, the combination of a central hub like member; radially arranged tubular supports threaded into said central member, said supports having horizontal ortions at their outer ends, their inner ends eing inclined downwardly; a circular sheet metal platform resting upon and secured to said central member, and the horizontal portions of said supports; a circular way formed of angle iron, secured at the outer edge of said platform; a plurality-of supporting rollers on which said way is adapted to travel; and a ivot bearing for said central member.
3. n a turn table, the combination of a central hub like member; radially arranged supports secured to said central member, said supports having horizontal portions at their outer ends, their inner ends being inclined downwardly; a platform resting upon and secured to said central member, and the horizontal portions of said supports; a circular way secured at the outer edge of said platform; a plurality of supporting rollers on which said way is adapted to travel; a cylindrical bearing member on said hub; and a socket bearing member therefor.
4. In a turn table, the combination of a central hub like member; radially arranged supports secured to said central member the inner ends of said supports being inclined downwardly; a platform resting upon and secured to said central member, and to the said supports; a circular way, secured at the outer edge of said platform; a plurality of supporting rollers on which said way is adapted to travel; a cylindrical bearing member on said hub; and a socket bearing member therefor.
5. In a turn table, the combination of a central hub like member; radially arranged sup orts secured to said central member, sai supports having horizontal portions at their outer ends, their inner ends being inclined downwardly; a platform resting upon and secured to said central member, and to the said supports; a circular way secured at the outer edge of said platform; a plurality of supporting rollers on which said way is adapted to travel; and a pivot bearing for said central member.
6. In a turn table, the combination of a central hub like member; radially arranged supports secured to said central member the inner ends of said supports being inclined downwardly; a platform resting upon and secured to said central member, and. to the said supports; a circular way, secured at the outer edge of said platform; a plurality of supporting rollers on which said way is adapted to. travel; and a pivot bearing for said central member.
