UNITED STi-itTES PATENT OFFICE.
HGLLY M. VERPLANCK, OF vLANSING, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR lI'O LANSING WHEEL- BARROW COMPANY, 0F LANSING, MICHIGAN.
TURN-TABLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IIoLLv M. Vi-:nrLANtzlg a citizen of the United States, residing at Lansing, Michigan, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Turn- Tables, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to iml'irovements in turntables.
The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved portable or truck turntable which is easily operated, either as a truck or as a turntab e. Second, to provide an improved turntable embodying these advantages, which is very simplel and economical in structure and, at the same time, one which is very strong and durable.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means dest-,ribed in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed ont in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodi ment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the4 accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a plan view of a structure embodying the features of my invention. Fig. II is a side elevation of the structure shown in Fig. I, the floor being shown in vertical section. Fig. l.Ill is an end view, the floor being shown in vertical section. Fig. IV is a detail view, partially in vertical section, on a line corresponding to line Il 4 of liig. I. Fig. V isa detail vertical section taken on a. line (1m-responding to the broken line 5-5 of Fig. I. Fig. Vl is a detail vertical section taken on a line corresponding to the broken'line (3-6 of Fig. l. ltig. Vll is a detail vertical section showing the guide rail and its channel andthe coacting guide wheel. f
In the drawing, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the body of my improved turntable comprises a pair of channel bodygways 1 connected by suitable cross members. These cross members are formed of angle bars 2, arranged in pairs Specification of Letters Patent.

with their angles facing. The cross bars Q are provided with drops 5, in which the body ways l are disposed so as to lower the wa as much as possible. The ends of the ways are turned downwardly at 4, so that; an automobile or other vehicle can be readily run onto the turn table.
The body is carried bv caster wheels 5, one of the caster wheels being arranged at each end of the cross bars '2. I also'pre'ferably provide an additional pair of caster wheels for each end cross member, the additional caster wheels being arranged on the inside of the ways l. This permits the body to be made of quite light material, and, at the same time, ity is supported so that it is not likely to be sprung in running a vehicle upon or ott'.
'l`he upper bearing members 6 of the caster wheels are disposed between and riveted to the cross bars 2. These bearing members are provided with suitable races :for the bearing balls. 'lhe standards 8 are. provided with raees for the bearing balls 7 and are secured to the members l by the, bolts S).
Any suitable easter wheels may be provided.
.\t. the center of the body, I arrange a guide wheel l0, the pivot bolt l1 of which is arranged vertically over its axle l2. '[his wheel l0, m the structure illus-` trated, is grooved to travel on the rail 13 which 1s seated below the surface of the loor 14, a concrete floor being indicated in the drawings. llie rail l!! is seated in the channel l5, having out-turned flanges IG al; its edges. 'lhe flanges 16 are embedded in the floor lflso that their upper surfaces or faces a re flush with the surface of the lloor. 'l`he face of the rail is substantially tlush with faces of the flanges 13.
By providing the channel, thc edges of the floor arel protected so that they are notl chipped ott' or broken by running the caster wheels over the same, and the gloove is made narrow so Vthat the caster wheels readily travel over it.
By arranging the parts as I have illustrated and described, the turntable is guided so that it can be readily moved along the guide rail and, at the same time, its turntable action is not interfered with in the` least, as it can be turned at any point along the line of the rail or guideway.
I have illustrated and described my imskilled in th'e art to which this invention relates, but I desire to be understood as claiming the structure specifically as illustrated,
as Well as broadly Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a structure of the class described, the combination With a body, of castel' Wheels therefor, a depressed rail, a Floor channel in which saidvrail is seated, said channel being provided with outwardly-projecting {lang-es at each side, the feces oi the rail and of said channel flanges being substentielly flush, and centrally-disposed flanged guide caster Wheel coacting with said ra il.
2. In a structure loi' the class described, the combinationl with a body, of caster wheels therefor, a ,depressed rail, a ioor channel in which said, rail is seated, end n centrally-disposed Ilzmgcd guide enst-ei1 wheel coecting with seid guide rail.
3. in n. structure oi the class described, the combination with e body, of caster Wheels therefor, e depressed rail, und e cenof said caster Wheels being centrally disposed to coact with said guide rail.
5. In a sti'ucture of the class described,
the combination with e body, of caster Wheels therefor, one of the caster Wheels bei. ing centrally disposed, and away fox" said central Wheel.
(. lne structure of body by a veiticul pivot disposed over the axle of the Wheel.
l. in. e structure of the class the combination wit'l seid guide wey, for the purpose specilied.
in Witness ,vliereof, l have hereunto set' inthe presence of two my hand and seal witnesses.
