LILIAN SOPHIA HINE, OF BRANDON, MANITOBA, CANADA.
SAUCEPAN-LID.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LILIAN SOPHIA HINE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, resid ing at Brandon, in the Province of Manitoba and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Saucepan-Lids, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to saucepan lids, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a lid for cooking vessels which can be immediately adjusted to permit the escape of steam from the cooking vessel and at the same time prevent the entrance of flies or other flying particles into said vessel.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cover of simple construction having a portion of the same arranged to be rotated to bring into coincidence openings which will permit the escape of the steam and which can be rotated to close said openings, wire gauze screens being provided for the open ings to keep out flies and foreign matter floating in the air.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lid made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central horizontal section through the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the rotatable band.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a rotatable band mounted between the flange 2 of the cover 3 and the bead 4 on the body portion of the lid. Formed in the flange 5 under the band l is a series of perforations 6, and upon the inside of the flange wire gauze screens 7 cover the perforations. On the rotatable band l finger Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led September 30, 1908.
Patented May1 18, 1909.
Serial No. 455,406.
holds 8 are secured for rotating the band to bring the screens 7 into coincidence with the openings c in the band to permit the escape of steam and prevent the entrance of flying particles in the air.
Referring to Fig` 3 it will be seen that the wire gauze screens may be applied to the band l instead of to the flange 5.
From the foregoing, it will be obvious that a saucepan lid made in accordance with my invention can be used to advantage in the cooking of many edibles which do not require confined steam, or rather which. are improved by the escape of the steam. My lid will permit of adjustment to the varying conditions required in cooking various vegetables or fruits.
My invention is of simple construction, can be manufactured at low cost, can be used as an ordinary lid, and can be readily adjusted for the purpose referred to.
I claim The herein described lid for cooking vessels comprising a cover member provided with a flange having openings therein and intermediate imperforate sections, and a metal band provided with openings covered with wire gauze and intermediate imperforate sections, said band being connected to the flange of said cover and provided with finger' holds for rotating the same to bring the openings in the flange and band into coincidence.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LILIAN SOPHIA HINE.
