UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
COMBINED SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER.
- Application filed July 21,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HIBBERT, a citizen of the Dominion of "Canada, and a subject of King George the Fifth of Great Britain, residing at 402 Union Bank Building, city of Victoria, Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented a new and useful Combined Salt and Pepper Shaker, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in combined salt and pepper shakers, castors, or cruets used for the dispensing of condiments at meal times or during cooking operations, and the object of the improvement is to provide a device which shall reduce the cost of such articles and at the same time minimize the handling and the breakage of them. And this not only as regards those which are universally in do-' mestic use but especially in circumstances where large numbers are required for va-' rious forms of catering as for instance in hotels, institutions, at banquets, on railways and the like.
In the drawings herewith Fig. 1 shows a vertical section of my device, Fig. 2 a transverse section on line w-m, Figs. 3 and 4 a plan and elevation of the screw cap and Figs. 5 and (i a plan and elevation of the swivelling or revolving cap. The drawing indicates a simple embodiment of my invention but obviously a variety of modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. In the case as illustrated two separate bottle-like members a and I) each of semi-circular cross section are united at the joint 0 to form in combination the body of a cruet of conical exterior, being held together by the metal rings d and e. The lower ring 0 is cemented in place whilst the upper ring d is held by a screw thread f 'a or b and thus communicate only 1924. Serial No. 727,233.
' so as to be readily removable for the insertion of the condiment.
The upper ring or screw cap d is perf orated by the holes at g and h which. are closed or opened by the revolution of the exterior cap z the latter being provided with a single sector shaped slot 7' which uncovers either of the groups of holes 9 or it as desired. The termination of the screw thread so arranged that the sector shaped groups of perforations g and h are opposite one or other of the two compartments of the cruet with the one or the other. The two caps 01 and 2' which are concentric and close fitting have a centre hearing or pivot at k. If preferred the upper cap 71 may have twoslots for exposing the perforations g and h in which case the circular motion is reduced and may be limited by the radial stop m secured to the inner cap 61 and protruding through a slot in the outer cap i as shown at n, the second sector shaped slot is shown by dotted lines at l. 65
It is obvious that by a slight adjustment to the outer cap the condiment in either compartment may be used at will.
I claim:
A combined condiment cruet consisting of two separate receptacles united and held in place by a circularv metal band at each end, one of said bands forming the side and rim of a cap which closes the orifice of both receptacles, said cap being perforated and covered by an outer cap concentric with and sliding upon it, said outer cap being also perforated and adapted to cover and uncover the perforations in the other said cap by a circular motion.
WILLIAM HIBBERT.
