UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE JOHN B. GEYSER, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT |N BRQILERS.
e Speciiicatioxi forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,822, dated January 29, 1878 application led December 26, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN B. GEYsER, of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Broilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My-invention relates to that class of broilers in which a sheet of wire-gauze is employed below the bars in order to prevent smoke, iiame, or other objectionable matter from coming in contact with the article of diet which is placed upon the broiler.
My improvement consists in a broiler combined with a ring and an intermediate sheet of wire-gauze, which is clamped around its edges by a recess in the ring, which fits over a rib upon the body of the broiler, the ring and broiler being secured together by means of lugs and screws, all substantially as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
. In the drawing, Figure l is a vertical central section ltaken through a broiler which has my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the broiler.
The broiler is composed of a body, A, bars A', and handle D. Channels formed in the bars A communicate with a channel, C, in the body, and this, in turn, with an outlet in the pouring-lip C', all in the usual way.
B represents the sheet of wiregauze secured to the under side of the broiler 5 and to accomplish this in accordance with my invention, I form the body A of the broiler with a V-shaped rib, a and also form a ring, E, with a recess corresponding to the rib a'. The wire-gauze is placed upon the under side of the broiler, with its edges projecting a little over the rib, and the ring is then secured to the broiler, so that the edges of the gauze will be rmly clamped between the rib and recess.
To secure the above in place, the body A has several small lugs, b, and the ring a corresponding series, F. These are adapted to receive screws g, whereby the ring and broiler are drawn tightly together, and a compact and durable article is produced.
The body A has a flange,f, around its rim, whereby the joint is concealed. l
Should the gauze become broken by excessive heat, the ring may be removed and another sheet of gauze inserted, in the manner hereinbefore described, without involving the eX- pense of another broiler and ring.
A Vbroiler having a rib, a', and lugs b, in com bination with thc annular recessed ring E, having lugs which correspond to those of the broiler, and an intermediate sheet of wireV gauze clamped around its edges by the rib of the broiler and recess of the ring, the said broiler and ring being secured together by means of lugs and screws, all substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
