v LETTER AND PACKAGE MAIL-BOX.
' tion. Y
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combined letter and package mail boxes, the object beinglto provide a packet box in connection wit box which is so constructed that it can be readily folded when not in use so that it will occupy a very small space.
Another object of my invention is to provide a very novel top-for the package receptacle, which when the receptacle 1s folded will extend down over the mail box so as to be out of the way.
A further object of the invention is to rovide a combined letter and ackage mail ox which is exceedingly simpie and cheap in construction and one whic is-very effective in use.
Another object of the invention is to rovide a letter and Cpackage mail box whic is especially adapte to be used in large buildings, the package box being so constructed that it can be collapsed whereby it will lie flatly against the back supporting plate so as to be''entirely out of the way. 1
Figure 1 1s a perspective view of my imroved combined letter and package mail ox. Fig. 2 is a pers ective view showing the package box in a i0 ded position. Fig. 3 is a. vertical section taken through Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is asection taken on the line-4*; of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken through Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a section taken on the line 66 of Fig. 5.
In carrying out my improved invention, I employ a back A which is provided with ears A through which screwsare adapted to ass for securing it to any suitable support. ivotally connected to the side edges of the back A are sides B and C formed of-two sections B B and C, O pivot-ally connected together and pivotally connected to the free edges of the sections B and C are the side edges of a mail box D which is provided with a hinged door D, and a nameplate D which is preferably formed of glass so that the letters within the box can be readily seen without opening the same; The top of the box is provided with an ordinary letter receiving Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July 20, 1908.- SeIiaI'No. 444,464.

opening I)? which is closed by a spring actuated lid D. a
Connected to the lower edge of the back A is a bottom E which is ada ted to rest on a flange F extending outwar 1y from the bot- "tom of the-box D when the sides arein'extended position, the bottom being locked in osition by a s ring catch F carried by the box D. A 'b'ai F is connected to the under side of the bottom E so that it can be readily drawn down in position.
upper edge of the back A is a top G formed of two sections G and G the section G having .an opening formed therein through which the ackages can be. readily deposited into the ox. The sections are pivotally connected together and when the package receptacle is in a folded positionthe opening inthe section a G registers with the letter receiving opening D, the sect'ion'Gr drop ing down over the,
front of the-mail box an holding the sections in a-closed osition. When it is desired to colla se the ox, it is onlynecessary to throwthe id back and insert the hand into. the same so as to' press the spring catch out of Connected to the engagement with the bottom and by forcing 4 the bottom up with the other hand and pressing the sides inwardly, it will be folded back upon the back plate.
From the foregoing description it is seen that I' have IiI'OVldBd a combined letter and packa c mal box which is. so constructed that t e package box is so connected to the mail box that it can be readily collapsed so as to be out of the waywhen not in use.
It will be seen that when it 'is desired to use the package box, it is only necessary to raise t e top and draw the letter box out-v wardly and by pulling the bottom down-.
wardly by. the bail, it will be locked into an 1 extended position ready to receive the packages.
What I claim is:-- i
1. The combination with a back carrying sectional sides, a mail box connected to the free edges of said sectional sides a bottom pivoted to the back adapted to enga e said mail box, and a sectional cover carried by the back extendin over said sides and mail box. I 2. The com inatioii with a back, of secits tional sides pivotally connected to said back, I a. mail box connected to the free edges of the sectional sides, a bottom pivotally connected to the back and adapted to rest on a flange of v the box, and a cover'carried by the back for closing said package box tionalv sides bottom pivotally connected to the back and adapted to rest on a flange of the box, and a and provided with a package receiving opening adapted to register with the opening of the letterbox when in afo'lded position.
4. The combination with a back, provided with ears-for securing it to a support, of sectionalsides pivotally connected tosaid back, the sections of the sides being pivotallycon- I 'nected together, the free edges of the'outer sections being pivotally connected to a letter box, a bottom ivotally'connected to the lower edge ofthe ack and'adapted to rest on .a flange of the box, means'for locking said bottom; and a sectional top pivotally con- 1 nectcdto the back, said top-being formed of th pivotally 'con-' two sections of unequal wi nected together. a p
5. The combination with a' back carrying letter receiving 0 sectional sides, of a mail box carried by said sectional sides'and provided with aletter reand adapted'to'extend over said box, one of the sections of said top being the same width g as the box. sectional top pivotally connected to the back 6. The combination with afback, provided *with sectional sides, of a letter'box carried by ceiving opening, abottom hinged to the back and adapted to engage said box, and a s'ectional top pivotally vconnected to the, back,
nected to the lower edge of the back and adapted to reston a flange of the box, a
spr ng for locking said bottom thereon, a.
sectional top pivotally connected to the back,
said sections being of unequal width, thev smallest section havingan opening formed 7 therein, said opening registering with the emng w bottom are inafo ded position.
