Letters' .Patent No. 92,206, dated July 6, 1869.l
IMPROVED CLOTHES-LINE HOLDER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part cf the name.
To all whom tt may concern.-
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Line Holders, and for other purposes; and I do hereby declare the following'to be a full and exact description ofthe same, to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to construct and understand the same, reference being had vto the :lceompanying drawings, making part of this speciiioation, in which- Figure l is a sideJ elevation of my line-holder, to'- gether with the line and frame supporting the same.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the pulley W.
Figure 3 is a transverse vertiealsection of the same, as per dotted line in iig. 2. p
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the connecting-bar.
Figure 5 is a transverse vertical section of the same, as per dottedline in tig.` 4:.
Figure 6 is a side elevation ofthe cam and lever.
Figure 7 is a transverse section ofthe same, as'per 'dotted lille in lig. 6.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the dilferent figures. v
rIlle nature 'of my invention consists in devices for catching, stretching, holding, and det-aching fibrous or metallic clothes and otherlines, in any desired position, and preventing their sagging.
A A A represent a frame for holding my devices and line.
B C N are conntersinks for the screws S T. v
1) D D D are flanges on the pulley W, to prevent the line slipping out at the sides, and to draw the line around when it is desired to continue ythe line from the point of attaclnnent to another point, at right angles, or any other angle.
strain is taken olf the short end.)
E 0 are chambers to admit thehollow sockets G G.
F is a con nectingbar, provided with hollow sockets G G, for holding the other parts firmly in their proper position.
H, l, and P, are screw-holes, by means of which, y when placed together, as in tig. l, all the parts are heldtrmly together by the screws S TL K is a lever for pressing the serrated cam L firmly on the line, and also for loosening the same when de-i sirable.
The operation of my invention is as follows:
The line being madev fast at one end, the other is drawn over the pulley W tightly, when the weight of the lever K causes the serratedcam L to come in 'con-4 tact with the line. rlhe tension and weight of the line draw the cam L down upon the line, (when Ythe It is held firmly n between the pulley \V and cam L. The pulleyW revolves, thus assisting in fastening the line. AIt also prevents the friction on the line."
It is thus evident that the holder Will` catch and hold all the line that is drawn through it.
To loosen the line, it is only necessary to lift the lever K, th'us disengaging the cam L and loosening the line.
/ Having thus described the nature, construction, and
operation of my invention, I
What I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
' "The construction ot' the cam L and lever K,con
