To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, ROBERT M. CLEVE- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chattanooga, in the county of Hamil-' ton and State of Tennessee, have invented I new and useful Improvements in Samplel Displaying Covers for Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to receptacle covers and has for its object to provide a cover of such class in a manner as hereinafter set forth which shall permit of a ready inspection of a sample of the contents of the re-" ceptacle while covering or concealing the bulk of said contents contained in the receptacle and at the same time permitting ready access to the interior of the receptacle for the purpose of removing the contents thereof.

Primarily the cover is designed for buckets although it is adapted for any usages wherein it is found applicable.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a receptacle cover which shall be simple in its construction, adapted for displaying the contents of the receptacle to which it is attached, strong, durable, efficient in its use, readily attached to the receptacle, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

I as shown, 1s connected a receptacle cover 1n accordance with this invention. The cover is adapted to be mounted upon the upper edge of the bucket and is of greater diameter than the top of the bucket.

The cover comprises an outer section 3 and an inner section 4. The outer section 3 is cylindrical in contour and formed with a bottom 5 and further provided with a laterally extending annular flange 6 at the top thereof. The flange 6 is formed with a beading 7 which surrounds a stiffening wire 8. vi' hen the cover is in position, the flange 6 is seated upon the top of the bucket 1. The flange 61's cut away as at 9 to provide an opening for a purpose to be hereinafter referred to and diametrically opposite the opening 9 a grip or handle 10 is secured to the upper face of the flange 6. The outer section 3 constitutes a pocket for the reception of the candy or other article to be exhibited. The inner section 1 is cylindrical in contour but of less height than the outer section 3. The inner section 1 is of a diameter slightly less than the diameter of the section 3 and is adapted to be mounted in said section 3 and snugly engage the sides of said section 3. The section 1 at its top is provided with a laterally extending flange 10 and arranged within and secured to said section 4 at the top thereof is an annular member 11 substantially U-shaped in cross section and in which is secured a transparent disk 12 through which the contents of the outer section 3 can be observed. Mounted upon the flange 10 and inclosing member 11 as well as over-lapping the flange 10 and engaging the transparent disk 12 is a facia ring 18 for concealing the joint between the member 11 and the sides of the section and also for concealing the flange 10 The ring 13 furthermore maintains the transparent disk 12 fixedly in position and ornaments the top of the inner section 4.

The cover is adapted to be hinged to the bucket and provision is had therefor through the medium of a coupling clamp referred to generally by the reference character 1 1 and which is provided with a vertically eXtend ing slot 15, a recess 16 communicating with said slot 15 and furthermore provided near its top with a peripheral shoulder 17 and a clamping screw 18 which extends through the arm 19 formed by the slot 15. The other arm formed by the slot 15 is indicated by the reference character 20. The lug 17 is adapted to arrest the rearward movement of the cover when it is elevated and the recess 16 is adapted to receive a 7. When the coupling member is positioned in the manner as stated, the binding screw 18 is forced inwardly which securely clamps the said member to the bucket.

By the foregoing construction and arrangements of parts, it is evident that a sample or" the contents of the receptacle or bucket can be exhibited by placing the same in the outer section 3 and that when it is desired to remove a portion of the contents from the bucket 1, all that it is necessary to do is to elevate the cover in the manner as shown in Fig. 2. W hen it is desired to flll the outer section 3 which may be termed sample tray, the inner section can be readily removed and replaced when occasion so requires.

VVhat I claim is:

1. A sample displaying cover for receptacles comprising an outer and an inner section, said outer section constituting a sample tray adapted to receive the samples and said inner section adapted to inclose the samples within the outer section, said inner section embodying as a part thereof a transparent disk so that the samples in the outer section can be observed, said outer section provided with an annular ed upon the receptacle for which the cover is used and provided with an opening and a reinforcing medium, and a coupling clamp extending through the opening and adapted to be connected to the receptacle and formed with means to receive a portion of said reinforcing medium and constituting a l'ulcrum for the cover.

2. A sample displaying cover for receptacles embodying means for exhibiting the samples and further having a laterally extending flange adapted to be mounted upon the receptacle for which the cover is used, said flange having an opening, and a remov- V able clamping member for connecting the cover and the receptacle and having as a part thereof means to receive a peripheral portion portion of the beading the beading wlnch 1S 1 The coupling clamp is 1 flange adapted to be mountof the cover and in which said portion of the 1 cover is fulcrumed.

A sample displaying cover for receptacles comprising means constituting a display tray and further having means for inclosing the articles displayed and said cover [further embodying a flange adapted to be seated upon the receptacle for which the cover is used, combined with a removable clamping member for detachably hinging the cover to the receptacle, said clamping member having a seat to receive a part of the periphery of the cover to provide a fulcrum for the latter and a portion extending through the cover and said member further straddling the receptacle.

5. A sample displaying cover for recep tacles comprising means constituting a dis- 1 play tray and further having means for inclosing the articles displayed and said cover further embodying a flange adapted to be seated upon'the receptacle for which the cover is used, combined with a removable clamping member for detachably hinging the cover to the receptacle, said clamping member having a portion extending through the cover and said member further straddling the receptacle and having means to arrest the movement of the cover in one direction.

6. A sample displaying cover for-recep l l l l tacles comprising means constituting a dis- 1 play tray and further having means for in- I closing the articles displayed and said cover lurther embodying a flange adapted to be seated upon the receptacle for which the cover is used, said flange provided with a handle and a stiffening medium, combined with removable clamping member for detachably hinging the cover to the receptacle, said clamping member having a portion extending through the cover and said member further straddling the receptacle and having means to arrest the movement of the cover in one direction.

7. A sample displaying cover for rece tacles comprising means constituting a CllSe play tray and further having means for i11- closing the articles displayed and said cover further embodying a flange adapted to be seated upon the receptacle for which the cover is used, said flange provided with a handle and a stiifening medium, combined with a removable clamping member rol vided with spaced legs for detachably hinging the cover to the receptacle, said clampin member having a seat to receive a periphera ortion of the cover and communicating with the space between the legs, the legs extending through the cover and straddling the receptacle.
