Description

J. J. DAVIS. 'MOP WRINGER- APPLIOATIOK FILED JULY 2, 190B.

WITNESSES.
ATTORNEY.
JOHN J, DAVIS, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IJIOP-WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
E'atented May 11, 1909.
Application filed July 2, 1908. Serial in). 241,602.
To all whom it may concern:
Be It known that I, JOHN J. DAVIS, cltizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis,
State of Missouri have invented certain new I and useful Improvements in Moi ,"i'rmgers,
of which the follov' is a full, clear, and I exact description, reference being had to the accbnupanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention has relation to improvements in mop-wringers; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the wringer secured in position on a tub; 2 is a vertical cross section on the line 2 2 of Fig. I; Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section on the line 33 of Fig. 1 Fig. 4 is a rear end view, with part of arresting arm or stop broken away and 5 is a perspective of the bracket carrying the looking-latch for the wringer-frame.
The object of m invention is to construct a mop-wringer w ich can be conveniently swung out of the way for gaining access to the operating parts for purposes of cieaning or be as readily loc red to the tub when occasion arises to operate the wringer; all as will be more fully apparent from a detailed descrip tion of the invention which is as follows:
Referring to the drawings, T, represents a tub or other vessel in which is contained the water. Secured along the wall of the tub is a bracket 1, and diametrically op osite thereto is a bracket 2, between suita le ears 6 of which are mounted a lower pair of cylinders 3, 3, the bracket 1. having a centrally disposed lug 4 to which is hinged one arm of a U-shaped wringer-frame F. The arm at the free end of this frame is extended sufficiently to permit the slot or socket a formed therein to engage and lock with the wedge-shaped keeper 5 formed on the inner face of the bracket 2 between the ears 6 c. This arm of the frame F is springy so it can automatically ride over the inclined face of the keeper as the frame is swung downward, the arm F; springing into its locked position when the i keeper 5 comes fully opposite the slot at.
hfounted in elongated slots d d of the frame 1 arms is the shaft S of the corrugated wringer roller 6, one end of the shaft being provided with an operating handle II. T he roller 6 is spanned by a yoke 7 to which are secured the plungers 8, 8, around which are coiled the expansion springs 9, 9, their ends bearing respectively against the yoke 7 and the frame F. As the crank H is turned, rotation is imparted to the roller 6, which in turn rotates the cylinders 3, 3, the mop passing between the latter and the roller 6 compressing the springs 9, 9 according to the thickness of the material operated on. To disengage the roller 6 from the cylinders 3, 3, the free arm of the frame F is released from the keeper 5, and the entire frame is swung upward (see dotted position 1), being arrested when swung to the proper angle by the stop or arm 10 secured to the tub opposite the bracket 1.
The device will make an admirable clotheswringer.
Having described my invention what I claim is In combination with a vessel or tub, a U- shaped frame having one end hinged above the upper edge of the tub, a bracket for said hinged end, a second bracket fixed to the tub diametrically opposite the first bracket, a keeper on said second bracket for locking the free end of the frame thereto, a pair of cylinders, mounted between the brackets, a wringer-roller having a shaft passing through suitable slots in the frame, a yoke spanning the roller, plungers carried by the yoke and passing looseiy through the hinged frame, springs encircling the plungers,- and interposed between the yoke and hinged frame, the parts operating substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN J. DAVIS.
