The invention consists ol' novel features und ports end combinatie, el the saine, which -willoe more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the clitiins.
A practical embodiment of the invention isrepresented in the accompanying drmvings forming :i pzrrt ol' this speciiiciition, in which siniihir charm-ters of reference indien te eorrespending parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is e perspective view oi the' im provenient and showing both siislies swung inward into mi approximatelyhorizontal position; Figs. 2 und l are sectioinil plan views of the lett-hond side of the window zit differenti levels rind showing both upper :ind lower szishes iii the iisuzil vertical position;v Figs. 5 :ind o tre siniilair views ol' the seine showing both upper und lower sfisliesy in ii. horizontal position; Fig. 7 is ai. front eloviu tion ol one olz the hinges fixed sash stile with the sliding sash stile;

The oiitereiid ol' the hitch I is provided with. ii linger-piece l)5 adapted to he teken hold of hy the operator, loi pushing the latch P3 upweird, to ilisengiige the hook P4 from, the keeper P, whenever it 1s desired to unlock the corresponding sash B or C frein its sliding Stiles Il or Il, previous to swinging the sash into n horizontal position. When swinging the szisli I' or C freni e horizontal into :i verticel'position, the letali I)3 automatically enwitliits hook P1 the keeper I, to'loel the stiles G, Il or G, Ill together. Vfhen it is desired to cleanl the lower sash lB or to repair the seine without removing it completely troni the window freine, then this seshB is preferably pulled down into e. lowermost position, sind tlien'tlie latches 'Piolthe locking devices P are nioved upiverd to disengiuge'the` hooks IA freni the keepers and topernnt of swinging the B--dov/nvferdfend instilesHand f a counterbalanced condition, and at the same ward into an approximately horizontal position, asindicated in Figs.;1 and 8.,' Now in swinging the Sash B downward and inward,
thesash cords Jare drawnv downward, while' the slidin Stiles H remain stationary, S'o that the sash as well as its stiles' H still remain in time 'convenient access is had to. both facesl lof the sash B` for cleaningor repairing the By reference to Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, it will be seen that the Stiles H are somewhat narrower than the Stiles H', to permit the upper sash C to conveniently swin downward and inward, and past tlfe Stiles as indicated in Figs. 5 and 6.V The stiles G, H and G',- H
are also preferably rabbeted, to prevent outward swingin of the sashes B and C on their I', 4and at-the vsame time render the sash air and moisture-proof' at the oint (betve/en the corresponding vStiles G, H and In order to hold the4 sliding stiles H and H in position in their guideways, and to allow ready up and down movement of the saine,A
each of the Stiles 'Hand H is provided near the sashes B and C can be conveniently and its ulpper end with guide plates Q, Q', of whic the guide plate Q extends into a recess D formed 1n the stop D, and the guide plate rQ extends -into a recess E formed in the parting strip'E, as indicated in Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
The window shown and described is very simple and durable in construction, canA be cheaply manufactured, and at the Same time readily swung into 4the room for cleaning or repairing pur oses, lwithout removing the sashes from t e window frame. When the Sashes are in their usual vertical osition, they can be readily moved up and own, for Ventilating and other purposes, the same as the ordinary sashes now in use. It will also be noticed that in swinging the sashes B and C inward into the room or back into a vertical position, they do not interfere in the least with outside fly screens or iron guards in windows provided with such Screens or guards.
