l0 drawn by steam or other power from either end, and one object is to so construct the machine that it will be as light as possible consistent with proper work, and so that the machine will accommodate itself to any l character of ground.
It is a further purposeof the invention to so mount the teeth carried by the frame of the machine, that they will automatically talle position for harrowing whether the inachine be drawn in one or the other direction;
since a suitable draft .attachment may be applied to either end of the machine.
It is a further purpose of the invention to so construct and mount the teeth, that they will be in transverse series, alternate series acting to turn the soil, the intervening series being then inactive, simply riding over the ground, and being brought into service only when the machine is drawn from the opposite end.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts illustrated, and to be hereinafter fully described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved harrow, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the harrow, the teeth being arranged for operation when the machine drawn, as indicated by the arrow; and Fig. 3 is a detail section, taken practically on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Similaicharacters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
In the construction of the machine, parallel beanie A and B are employed as draft beams, so that the harrow may be drawn with equal facility from either end. A series of stepped, toothed bars C connect the beams A and B, which bars at their straight or parallel portions, are in two members 10 and 11,
and said tooth-carrying bars C are pivotally connected in desired members by transverse bars 12, whereby the bars C are in longitudinal series or sets, as is best illustrated in l. rIhe tooth-carrying bars C are connected with each other by links 14, and with the draft beams A and B, by suitable links Ilia,

and said draft beams A and B are provided with bolts 13, or their equivalents, for attachment to draft devices. Teeth 15 are carried by the straight sections of the bars C, being pivoted between the members 10 and 11 by suitable pivot pins 17, and each tooth 15 is provided with a head 16 and each head 16 of a tooth is adapted, when the tooth is in operation, to bear against a stop pin 18, located at the dual section of a bar C, whereby to hold such tooth in position to plow through the ground, while the teeth of the next or following series, simply ride over the surface of the ground, as is shown in Fig. 2, and are only brought into action when the harrow is drawn from the opposite end. What we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
LA. harrow having draft connections at each end, tooth carrying bars connecting the draft connections, and a series of oppositely arranged pairs of teeth connected with each of said bars, the members of each pair being mounted to swing freely toward the other member of the pair.
2. A hai-row having draft connections at each end, tooth carrying bars connecting the draft connections, and a series of pairs of teeth connected with each bar, the members of each pair being oppositely arranged and mounted for free swinging movement, and means for limiting the swinging movement of each member in a direction away from the other member.
3. In a harrow, draft beams at each end of the harrow stepped toothcarrying bars, swinging connection between the tooth-carrying bars and the draft beams, and pivotal connection between sundry of the tooth-earrying bars, coupling them in series, teeth mounted in transierse Series in the said earryng bars, the teeth of adjacent series being oppositely curved, and means for rendering one series of teeth active, and the adjacent Series inactive', during the operation of the machine.

In a harrow, the combination with draft beams at each end, and tooth-carrying bars havingswinging connection with the same beams, of teeth pivoted in the carrying bars and arranged in series, one series at the rear of the other, the teeth of opposing series bej ing oppositeiy Curved7 heads for the Said teeth, the heads o't` one Series of teeth facing the heads of the teeth of the next series, and Stop devices carried by the toothed bars and adapted to engage with the heads of the teeth, acting` in the operation of the machine to bring` the teeth of one series into action andv release the teeth of the intervening Series.
