Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE S. BEAHM, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Insect-Destroyer, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of an insect destroyer comprising a vapor generator and means for directing the resultant vapor to the place of service, said generator being adapted to cause the formation of the vapor in a rapid and effective manner.
It further consists of a deflector interposed between the vapor generator and covering cap thereof for causing the vapor to be impinged thereagainst and the water of condensation returned to the boiler; thus the vapor conveyed from the device will be relieved of a greater portion of its moisture, the drier vapor being better for the trees, plants, etc., and so produces the best results in the destruction of insects or the fumigation or spraying of trees, bushes, plants, etc, which removes the insects therefrom or prevents the subsequent lodgment of the same thereon.
For the purpose of explaining my invention, the accompanying drawing illustrates a satisfactory reduction of the same to practice, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific arrangement and organization shown and described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of an insect destroyer embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 represents a bottom plan view of the cap of the vapor generator.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawing z-A designates a body of cylindrical or other form, in the base of which is the lamp or heater B, and from the top of which is suspended the vaporgenerator C, the bottom of which is above the burner of said lamp, said generator consisting of a vessel or boiler D, which is supplied with fluid or liquid of a nature whose vapor is adapted to exterminate insects, worms, etc. or fumigate trees, bushes, plants, etc. on which such insects, etc. may lodge, or
which they may infest. Connected with the top and bottom walls of said vessel D, are the flues E, which pass vertically through the body of the vessel and are open below in body A and above to the atmosphere, while being closed to the interior of said vessel.
F designates a cap, which is screwed or otherwise attached to the neck F of the vessel D, the upper portion or head G forming a conical chamber, and having connected with it the spout H, from which leads the flexible tube J, on whose outer end is the discharge nozzle K, which is provided with the handle L for conveniently directing said nozzle to a desired place or object. Within the cap F at the base of the conical head G there is a deflector or bafl'le M, which is composed of a disk or late secured in position by the tongues which latter project from the periphery of said deflector and are secured to the adjacent wall of the portion G leaving between said periphery and wall the passage P, through which the vapor from the generator C is directed from the latter into said portion G. The side wall of said generator is conical or decreasing in diameter from top to bottom, so as to leave a space between said wall and that of the body A, whereby the products of combustion may enter said space and heat the exterior owing to the flues E, boiler is also heated.
