ROAD-DRAG.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID C. BOYD, citizen of the United States, residing at Galion, in the county of Crawford and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Road-Drags, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object, a simple, durable and efficient construction of drag or road leveler which may be cheaply manufactured and easily assembled With these and other objects in view as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved drag or road leveling device: and, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference characters.
My improved road scraper or levelin device comprises a plurality of blades whic are in the present instance two in number, ar ranged in spaced relation one in advance of the other. These blades designated 1 and 2 respectively are secured by bolts or other fastening devices to the transversely extending beams 3 of the framework of the apparatus. The said beams are in the present instance, angle bars as shown, disposed with their horizontal portions uppermost and projecting rearwardly and substantially flush with the blades 1 and 2, said blades being bolted to the front side of the beams.
In addition to the beams 3, the frame work of my improved drag or road leveler includes longitudinally extending T-bars 4 which are riveted to the beams 3 near to and spaced from the ends thereof and a platform 5 which may be made of wood or sheet steel or any other desired substance or material and which is riveted or otherwise secured at its ends to the base flanges of the longitudinally extending beams or T-bars 4, the front and rear edges of the platform being preferably spaced from the blades and the beams 3 Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January '7, 1909.
Patented May 4, 1909.
Serial No. 471,195.
as indicated at 6, and the platform being supported entirely by the bars 4, having no direct connection with the beams 3 whatever, or the blades 1 and 2. 7 designates clevises that are secured in any desired way to the forwardly projecting ends of the bars 4, and that in turn have connected to them draft chains 8, it being particularly noted that the clevises 7 are secured to the framework of the device at the upper edges of the blades, and thus being located where they will not interfere with the proper action of the device in scraping the soil.
It is obvious that the device may be easily drawn along the road over bridges or the like in an inoperative position, by merely turning the framework upside down so that the flanges 4 of the beams 4 may constitute sled runners. It is also evident that the blades are self-sharpening, as they may easily be reversed end for end Whenever one side edge becomes worn or dull.
From the foregoing description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple form of road drag or leveling device, the parts of which may be cheaply constructed and easily assembled and which will be rela tively light, while at the same time capable of withstanding considerable hard usage.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is: I
The herein described road drag, comprising a plurality of blades arranged in spaced relation one in advance of the other, angle bars to the front sides of which the blades are respectively secured, said bars being arranged with their horizontal flanges uppermost, longitudinally extending T-bars rigidly secured at their base flanges to the angle bars, and constituting sled runners in the inverted position of the device, a platform supported solely by and secured to the opposing ase flanges of the bars, the front ends of the T-bars projecting beyond the forward blade, and draft devices connected to the projecting ends of the T-bars.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
