WILLIAM H. TRACY, OF HOLLAND, KENTUCKY.
COMBINED CLOD-CRUSHEB AND SCRUB-GUTTER.
Application filed August 31, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. TRACY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holland, in the county of Allen, State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Combined Clod-Crusher and Scrub-Cutter; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same This invention relates to a combined clod crusher and scrub cutter, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which is simple, etficient and practical in construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind consisting of a frame constructed in two sections hingedly united, the rear section of which has a plurality of clod or scrub cutters, and is adapted to be thrown upon the forward section, to hold the scrub cutters out of operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide yieldable supporting means forithe rear section, when folded upon the forward section.
Another object of the invention is to provide a plurality of bars pivoted transversely of the rear section, each carrying a series of clod and scrub cutters, each of which bars is adapted to be inverted, so as to hold the cutters out of operation, either when the rear section is folded or is thrown down to drag at the rear of the forward section.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings 1-- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved clod crusher and scrub cutter con structed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view showing the rear section folded.
Fig. A is a sectional View on line 44: of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 55 of Fig.
Referring more especially to the drawings 1 designates the frame as a whole of the improved clod crusher or scrub cutter, which Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 17, 1917..
Serial No. 117,898.
frame consists of the forward and rear sections 2 and 3, which are hingedly united by means of the transverse rod 5 and the eyes 6 of the plates 7 which are secured at 8 to the sections. The sections consist of the side runner members 9 and 10. The sides 9 are connected by the transverse bars 11, the ends of which are counter-sunken in the sides 9, there being angled bars 12 for holding the bars 11 to the sides. Connecting the bars 11 is a central bar 13. The bars 11 are countersunken into the under face of the bar 13, while the bar 18 is countersunken in the upper faces of the bars 11, there being suitable bolts 1 1 connecting said bars. The bar 13 is additionally braced relative to the forward bar 11, by means of the angle bar 15. A suitable equalizer (not shown) may be connected to the forward extremity of the bar 13 whereby the machine may be drawn over the soil. Secured upon the under portions of the sides 9 are the runner plates 16. Referring to the rear section it is to be seen that transverse bars 17 have their ends countersunken in the upper edges of the sides 10, there being metal straps 18 bolted to the bars 17 and the sides 10 to insure a rigid structure. Connecting the bars 17 and countersunken therein is a central bar 19. A bolt 20 extends through the rear end of the bar 19 and the rear transverse bar 1'? thereby connecting the two bars. Secured by a bolt 21 and a bolt 22 is a supporting spring mem- 381 23, which is carried by the bar 19, so that the spring arm 24 will engage the bar 13 when the rear section is folded in an inverted position upon the forward section, thereby holding the cutters or their carrying bars out of engagement with the ground. The bolt 22 passes through the forward bar 17, and the central bar 19, thereby additionally reinforcing the structure. Bolted to the rear upper surfaces of the sides 10 are handle.
2. In a clod crusher and scrub cutting machine, the combination of a frame consisting of two sections hingedly united, whereby the rear section may be folded upon the forward section and a spring support carried by the upper face of the rear section to engage the forward section, to support the rear section when folded, of means for latching the two sections, whereby the rear section may drag rigidly in the rear of the forward section, a plurality of scraper bars connecting the sides of each section, means for pivoting the scraper bars of the rear section, abutment means for the pivoted scraper bars, and knives carried by said pivoted scraper bars.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. 7
