MEANS FOR EXTRACTING THE CONTENTS OF BOTTLES.

Be it known that l, ARTHUR J. FARMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit', county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful linprovement in Means for Extracting the Contents of Bottles, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri )tion of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in devices employed to extract the contents from bottles and other containers.

One object of the invention is to provide a device embodying such characteristics that the contents of a container may be transferred to another container without the loss of any of the liquid or the exposure of the same.

A still further object is to provide a device designed toV extract a toilet or medical preparation from a container and transfer the liquid to a specially designed fountain comb or other instrument employed to discharge the preparation for the treatment of the scalp or other parts of the human body.

A still further object of the invention is to rovide a device of the nature stated emodying a bulb, a nozzle and a combined guard and guide embracing the nozzle and projecting a relatively long distance beyond the discharge end of the nozzle, there being openings formed in the combined guard and guide so that the nozzle may be viewed through the combined guard and guide.

With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the ap ended claims, it being understood that c anges may be made in the form, proportion, size and minor details without departing from the spirit or sacriiicing any of the advantages of the invention.

The invention consists in the rubber bulb Il mounted on a relatively short projecting nozzle zf, screw threaded at its outer end to engage the end of the tubular back of the comb, not shown, lllmbracing the nozzle 7a. intermediate its ends and extending considerably beyond the outer end of the nozzle, is a combined guard and guide l, preferably perforated a portion of its length, so that the nozzle maybe seen from the outside in order that the operator may guide the latter into engagement with the nipple E of the bottle or with the end of the tubular back of the comb, not shown.

lVhen it is desired to charge a comb with the fluid, taken from the bottle A, the bulb with its nozzle is disconnected from the comb and the bulb collapsed by pressure of the hand. The nozzle 7L is then inserted in the rubber nipple E or other terminal of the bottle o1' container A, with the guard I embracing the neck ot the bottle and thereby guiding` the nipples into cooperative relation. The bulb is then permitted to assume its normal shape or condition, which action, as will be readily understood, serves to draw the 'fluid from the container A into the bulb. The nozzle 7L is then disconnected from the container A and engaged with the end of the back of the comb (not shown) and comressed, with the result of forcing the liquid into the comb which is then ready lor use in applying the preparation to the scalp or other parts of the body.

Wvhat is claimed is t# 1. An instrument ol the character described comprising a bulb, a nozzle, and a combined guard and guide having connecl tion with the nozzle and projecting a relatively long distance beyond the outer end of the latter'.

2. An instrument of the character described comprising a bulb, a nozzle, and a combined guard and guide embracing the nozzle intermediate its ends and flaring outwardly and extending a relatively long distance beyond the outer end of the nozzle and provided with openings in its walls whereby the outer end of the nozzle may be seen by the operator to guide the instrument.

3. An instrument of the character described comprising a bulb, a nozzle, and a combined guard and guide flaring outwardly and projecting beyond the outer end of the nozzle.
