The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS JEFFERIS, of Council Bluffs, Pottawatomie county, State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Heat-Distributers for Stove-Drums; and I do hereby declare the following to be. a full, clear, and exact description of the same, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying Figure 1, Sheet I, representsa side elevation of a rectangular heating-drum, having horizontal fines, and

In fig. 1, Sheet I, is represented a rectangular drum, 0, provided with the hen I; supply-pi pe A, and dischargepipe A, arranged upon the bottom and top respectively.

These plates K are arrangedabove and below the series of air-fines B, and the heat-supply and discharge-pipes A A. 7
It is designed to so construct the distributers, that they may either extend the whole width of the drum,
or only to the outside rows of the fines B, as shown in figs. 1 and 3.
The distributers may be either permanently secured in place, or adapted to slide through the sides of the drum, as desired.
The drum may have any desired capacity above that of the pipes A A, but the openings-X in the distribute]; musthave, in the aggregate, a draught-capacity at least equal to that of the pipes A A, with an addition thereto, if desired, of from twenty-five per cent., to one hundred per cent, (according, in inverse proportion, to the force of the draught in theflue, or chimney,) for heat-expansion.

By this arrangement, the heated currents entering through the pipe A, will be arrested by the lower plate K, and allowed to pass only through the openings X; and as these are arranged at intervalsacross, or nearly across the drum, the ascending currents will be evenly distributed throughout the entire drum, finding escape only through the openings in the upper plate.
In drums, as ordinarily constructed, the heated currents ascend centrally thereof, and only those portions are heated which lie in line with the supply and dis charge-pipes.

One end of this drum is supported upon the stove, or other heater, by means of the short support J In a drum of this construction, the plates K K are of annular form, and secured, at a suitable distance apart, between the inner and outer cylinders, and between the pipes A A, as shown in dotted lines.
Each plate is provided with a series of concentric openings, :2: 2:, as shown in dotted lines, fig. 7.
