INCUB ATOR-HE ATER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY E. KELLER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Decatur, in the county of Adams and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incubator- Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in incubators and has relation more especially to heaters employed in conjunction therewith.
It is an object of the invention to provide a novel device of this kind wherein pure air is permitted to enter the incubator.
Furthermore, an object of this invention is to produce a device of the character noted, which will possess advantages in points of simplicity, efliciency and durability, proving at the same time comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which Figure 1, is a central sectional view with parts broken away illustrating the invention, the same being shown in operative position.
Fig. 2, is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, 1s a vlew partly in section and partly in elevation of the device.
In these drawings 1, indicates an incubator which may be of any preferred or ordinary construction and 2, a shelf carried thereby which is adapted to support a lamp 3, the chimney l, of which is adapted to can tend within the heater 5, which heater forms the essential feature of the present invention.
The heater comprises three cylinders 6, 7, and S, nested one within the other and separated by suitable spaces 9 and 10, the space 9, communicating with the atmosphere at the base of the heater. The cylinders are all provided with a common top 11.
The interior of the central or inner cylinder 6, is in communication with the space 10, through the medium of the short pipe 12. In the outer cylinder near the base and on the opposite side tothe short pipe 12, is an open- Speeification of Letters Patent.

The products of combustion from the lamp 3, pass up the inner cylinder 6, into the space 10, through the pipe 12, and are exhausted through the opening 13. This circulation of the products of combustion thoroughly and effectually heats the air passing up the space 9, as will, it is thought, be fully understood. This heated air is carried within the incubator 1, through the medium of the pipe 14;, which is in communication with the space 9. It may be well to mention at this point that the exhaust opening 13, is much less in diameter than the short pipe 12. This is done so that the travel of the products of combustion will be retarded for reasons which are obvious.
In communication with the space 10, and held in any suitable manner to the outer cylinder 8, is an angular pipe 15, which has its free end normally opened. Acting in conjunction with this open end of the an gular pipe is a damper 16, which controls the temperature of the air as is thought to be clear to those skilled in the art to which this invention relates. A detail description of this damper is not believed essential as it may be of any well known or preferred construction, as its specific form is no part of the present invention.
The cylinders 6, 7, and 3, may be held in position in any desired manner but it has been found in practice that they be preferably assembled as illustrated in the accompanying drawings. The outer cylinder 8, is provided at its upper and lower edges with the outstanding flanges 17, to which are crimped or clenched the top 11 and the closure 18, of the space 10, respectively. The top of the inner cylinder 6, is provided with an outturned flange 19, which fits between the top 11 and an annular collar 20, which is also clenched to the top flange of the outer cylinder 8. The lower portion of the cylinder is frietionally engaged by a plurality of arms 21, which are secured to the closure 18. In order that the arms 21, will be held against displacement from the cylinder 6, the lower end portion of said cylinder is flared outwardly as shown in Fig. 1. The intermediate cylinder 7, is provided with a flange at both ends, the up per flange bearing against the collar 20,
while the lower flange is clenched to the closure 18. The connections of the cylinders 7 and 8, are not essentially a feature, but that of the inner or central cylinder is most desirable as it is necessary to make the upper connection as tight as possible in view of the movement and intensity of heat that passes thereup from the lamp.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A device of the character described comprising an innermost cylinder, an outermostcylinder and an intermediate cylinder, said innermost cylinder receiving the combustion products and open at the bottom, said innermost or combustion-products cylinder having pipe connection with said intermediate cylinder, said pipe connection delivering the combustionproducts into the outermost cylinder, said intermediate cylinder having a hot air delivery pipe opening therethrough and extending through the outermost cylinder and beyond the latter, all of said cylinders having closed upper ends, said intermediate and innermost cylinders forming an air receiving and heating chamber between them having an open lower end, and said outermost cylinder having connected thereto and opening through it, a valved pipe communicating With the chamber formed between said outermost and intermediate cylinders, said outermost cylinder also having an outlet opening through it, near the bottom.
