POWDER-KEG.
Patented April 20, 1909.
Application filedkovember. 6, 1907. Serial No. 400,977.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD JAMES LoRE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at.
Rockville, in the county of Parke andState of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Powder-Kegs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to powder kegs, the
' object being to provide the keg with a (118- pensing spout, to one side of the filling opening, so that the powder can be readily poured out of the keg to the cartridge.
Another object of my invention is to slidably mount the spout in the keg, so that when it is not in use it can be moved into the same so as to be out of the way.
Afurther object of my invention is to provide a slide which will cover the filling openingand s out so as to completely close the opening, t iereby preventing any sparks from enterin the keg and igniting the powder.
A sti further object is to provide a keg with a sprin for forcing the spout outwardly as soon as 1518 slide is drawn from over the same.
With these various objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this of my improved keg showing the spout forced outwardly. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of the keg showing the slide forced over the iilhng opening and dispensin spout. Fi 3 1s a top fplan view of the keg s owing the s ide drawn rom over the spout and opening.
In the drawing A indicates an ordinary powder keg provided with a filling, opening A in its top and a dispensing opening A arranged to one side of the filling o ening and adjacent the edge of the cam. e plate B is secured on the top of the camover the opening and is provided with flanged ed es forming guide-ways, in which is mounts a slide 0. The plate being rovided with openings B, B registering wit the openings A, A, and mounted in the opening: A B is a dispensing tube D provided wit flanged l u er and lower edges, the tube being slidahiy mounted therein, so that it'can readily mally held within the tube by theslide which completely closes the filling opening and tube when forced over the same. The tube being forced outwardly by a spring E which is secured to the side of the cam and engages the flanged lower end of the tube, so that when the slide is drawn from over the tube vthe tube will be forced outwardly so that it will fit tightly about the cartridge, without exposing the powder at all.
rom the forego description it will be readily seen that I ave provided a very novel keg with a dispensing spout which is so mounted in the 'keg that it is 'out of the way being dented or broken on, and one which will enablethe miner to fill the cartfi e's without wasting any powder at all, there y saving a great amount of powder and lessenin the danger.
aving thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. .A powder keg with spaced openings in its top, a plate secured over sai ope provi ed with openings corres onding wit the openings of the keg and anged edges forming a guide way, a dispensing tube provided with flanged upper and lower ends slidably mountedin one of said ope a 8 ring arranged within said can normally holding said tube in an extended position and a shde descri ed RICHARD JAMES LORE. work up and down in the same and is n01- when not in use, thereby preventing it from I mounted in the guide way of the plate for-
