To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOI-1N J. PLowMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vaterport, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gates and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in gates and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which:-

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a post to which one end of the gate is held by means of a strap B in which a pivot pin C is mounted and upon which pin a cam lever D is journaled, said cam adapted to bear frictionally against the end pieces E of the gate to hold the same frictionally against the face of said ost. A strip N is pivotally connected to the strips F and K at any suitable location, preferably adjacent to their longitudinal centers, and N is a pin fastened to lthe strip N and also to one of the longitudinal strips G and upon which pin N a locking bar R is pivotally mounted, the ends of which locking bar are beveled, as shown, and are adapted to engage the spurs or projections S upon thc plates J and Q and serve to normally hold the gate in any raised and ad justed position.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that, by the provision of the strip B fastened to the post A, the rear end of the gate may be held in different vertical positions, while the tilting bar R having its beveled ends is adapted to engage the spurs upon the plates J and Q so as vto hold the gate in any suitable partially folded position, as will be readily understood.
What I claim to be new is 1. A folding gate having longitudinal and transverse strips pivoted together, spurred plates upon the adjacent faces of said transverse strips, a bar pivotally mounted upon the gate intermediate said spurred plates, the beveled ends of said bar designed to engage the spurs of said plates to hold the gate in a raised position, as set forth.
2. A folding gate having longitudinal and transverse strips pivoted together, spurred plates fastened to the adjacent edges of said transverse strips, one above and the other below the longitudinal center of the gate, a bar pivotally mounted upon the gate intermediate said spurred plates and having beveled ends adapted to engage said spurs to hold the gate in a raised position, as set forth.
