Description

A. VAN KEMPEN.
MEASURE INDIOATING TAG FOR FABRICS.
APPLICATION TILED JULY 27, 1903.

ANTON VAN KEMPEN, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
MEASURE-INDICATING- TAG- FOR FABRICS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 27, 1903.
Patented April 13, 1909.
Serial No. 167,092.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON VAN KEMPEN, a subject of the German Emperor, residin' at Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Measure- Indicating Tags for Fabrics, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion.
My invention relates to means for providing a web or bolt of cloth adjacent to one or more edges at suitable intervals apart with tags of metal, consecutively numbered so as to indicate the measurement of the various portions of the web or bolt, and alse the amount that has been cut from such wob or bolt as well as theamount remaining thereon, and consists of a strip of sheet metal, adapted to be separated into sections, each of which sections is adapted to be secured to the cloth of the web or bolt adjacent to the edge; each of which sections as originally formed upon the strip before separation is provided with a number, which numbers are consecutively arranged from one end of the strip to the other.
In the accompanying drawings are illus trated my improved tags to be attached to the edge of the fabric.
Figures 1, 2 and 3 show different forms of the tags, and Fig. 4 is a section on line l4 of Fig. 3.
4 The band a shown in Fig. 1 is made oi metal and provided with a number o pointed teeth I). Gn this band are provided consecutive numbers, preferably along each edge, so that when the tags are bent in the niddle the number appears on each side thereof. Instead of numbers any other characters may be used. From this band the separate clasps or tags are cut off on the lines ra'-, and attached to the edge of the cloth. In attaching the clasps the pointed teeth are bent inward, so that there is no danger of the clasps or tags falling out.
in the construction of clasps or tag illustrated in Fig. 2 the teeth provided are of slightly different form, being merely indentations. These clasps after being cut off from the band on the lines r-rr are secured to the edge of the cloth by punching the indentations c and bending the tags in the middle over the edges of the cloth. The projections thus formed on the underside of the clas s penetrate into the cloth and so secure y hold said clasps. Bands of the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4, having bent teeth can also be used. The separate clasps are in this case very lightly connected and can therefore be easily cut off. In driving these clasps into the cloth the teeth are bent into the dotted position shown in Fig. 4.
Having now described my invention I claim.
1. A cloth measurement indicating strip formed of metal, having consecutively arranged length indicating characters stamped thereon, such strip beingc omposed oi' separable sections, each section bearing a character, ant. being adapted to be clamped to the web of cloth to be marked, each section being provided. with integrally formed clotl engaging projections.
2. A cloth measurement indicating strip formed of metal, provided with consecutively arranged length indicating characters disposed in pairs, base to base, such strip being composed of separable sections, each section bearing a pair of characters, and adapted to be bent over the edge of the i'abric to be marked, and secured thereto by a sharp securing point at each end.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 8th day of July 1,903, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANTON VAN KFMPEN.
