HARRY FEDER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED HAIR-ROLL AND COMB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Iatented March 30, 1909.
Application filed October 1, 1908. Serial No. 455,613.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY FEDER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough hilanhatta in the city and .State of New York, have invented. a new and useful Combined Hair-Roll and Comb, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined hair rolls and combs and has for its object to provide means for ii'istantly attaching and detaching the roll and comb or combs, said means being fitted to hold the hair roll in many different shapes, forms and sizes by the contraction, expansion and twisting of the roll so as to permit the roll to conform with the style in which the hair is to be dressed.
A further object is to provide wedge shaped buttons for removably and adjustably securing the hair roll and comb or combs together, the shape oi the said buttons permitting them to be readily inserted through the meshes oi one or more walls of the hair roll.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings in which,
ifigure 1 is a view of the combined hair roll and comb in perspective, Fig. 2 is a detail longitudinal section through one of the combs and a portion of the hair roll, on a larger scale, Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken in the plane of the line ir.si of Fig. 1, on a larger scale, looking in the direction of the arrows, Fig. 4; is a view in perspective of one of the combs, Fig. is a plan view showing a portion of the roll contracted and held in such position on. a comb, Fig. 6 is a detail view showing another shape in which the hair roll may be held on the comb, and Fig. 7 is a detail view of still another l'orin in which the hair roll may be attached to the comb.
'l'he hair roll is denoted by 1 and it is formed oi wire woven into the desired shape and size. lhe hair roll may be detachably secured to one or more combs in any desired position or shape. The comb comprises a body portion 2 from which the usual teeth 3 extend. The hair roll and comb or combs are detachably secured together by providing one or more buttons. in the present instance the body portion 2 of each comb is provided with a series of buttons along the outer face oi the comb, said buttons having wedge shaped heads at and shanks 5, said shanks being preferably of sufficient length to permit the interposition of several layers of wire between the heads ol' the buttons and the face of the comb. in the present instance the shanks of these buttons are divided to form prongs which are embedded in the body portion of the comb.
it will be seen that by providin wedge shaped buttons, the heads of these buttons may be readily inserted through the meshes or one or more walls of the hair roll and thus hold. the hair roll to the comb or combs in any desired shape and form thereon. it will also be understood that the several forms illustrated in the accompanying drawings are only a few of numerous forms in which the hair roll may be detachably secured to the comb or combs.
By the term button I wish to be understood as including any device for removably attaching the hair roll to the comb or combs.
What i claim is:
1. The combination with an extensible and contractible hair roll, of a comb provided with a button for detachably securing it to the hair roll in any desired position. along the same.
2. The combination with an extensible and contractible hair roll, of a comb provided with buttons for detachably securing it to the hair roll in any desired position along the same.
3. The combination with. an extensible and contractible hair-roll, of a comb provided with a button having a wedge-shaped head entering the hair-roll for detachably securing the comb to the hair-roll in any desired position. along the same.
l. The combination with an extensible and contractible hair roll, of a comb provided with buttons having wedge-shaped heads entering the hair roll for detachably securing the comb to the hair roll in any desired position along the same.
in testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two witnesses, this thirtieth day of September 1908.
HARRY FEDEE. Witnesses:
F. GEORGE BARRY, HARRY THIEME.
